You are focusing on the loft line (profile) and ignoring the wheelwells.
In turns the top of a tire doesn't move in/out as much as the middle of the wheel/tire. A uniform radius from the resting center of the wheel is sub-optimal. http://i.imgur.com/1k1yDOh.jpg |
that it's nose is nothing remarkable, although it does have a complete boat-tailed rear.
|
Or maybe it's a bluff nose with a low stagnation point, and a rear end that is too fast—intentionally, to improve cooling air intake—but too fast none-the-less. The narrowed front axle is good prep for front wheel skirts.
What a corrected Beetle body might look like. http://ecomodder.com/forum/member-fr...four-tails.jpg |
nose
here is some data from R.G.S.White at MIRA,1969,
look at plan and elevation http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled1_39.jpg if you take all of his best of each category you get Cd 0.245 (in 1969) http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...2/12-062-1.jpg here's some windshield data from FIAT http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled3_24.jpg cowl height http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled2_25.jpg and nose http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled1_25.jpg front lift http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled2_23.jpg from Fachsenfeld (KAMM) http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...2/scan16_1.jpg Hoerner http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...d2/scan5_2.jpg Eiffel http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...d2/scan4_2.jpg Eiffel http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...rohead2/-1.jpg Walter Lay,1933 http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/.../Scan03-22.jpg |

aerohead -- So I try to get by with a rerun, and you throw out a whole bunch of new stuff. I think I'd seen only the last two before.
The first one is fun! For the Beetle, I get A-2 B-2 C-1 D-1 E-7 F-1 G-6 H-4. Is there a secret decoder key? Frank Lee -- It's a setup. You want us to have to admit it's that first one. I'm going to go with: http://i.imgur.com/VDbz2.jpg It's all about the fineness ratio. |
Fineness ratio? I thought it was about fuselage length.
