Best instrumentation for logging?
I am looking to get into hypermiling and I am kinda addicted to getting good data, so my idea is this...
An ODBII reader that logs instantaneous MPG, trip MPG, and MPH A GPS that logs altitude and location Synchronized by time I would be able to see how road volatility impacts speed, and MPG. Also viewing the same routes over time I would be able to tell how my driving / conditions effected the resulting MPG. Now I just need to figure out what equipment is going to accomplish this in the most pain free way. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
I like these guys because there are a lot of software options :
ScanTool.net, LLC - Scan Tools and PC-based OBD-II (OBD2) Interfaces But I don't know about a "link" to GPS. I think you'd have to "datalog" the GPS data in parallel and merge the output into a spreadsheet. What kind of car do you have? CarloSW2 |
Yes, I was planning on merging the two from a parallel logging.
2009 Honda Fit I have looked at their options. It is disappointing that the most respected and often cited instrumentation is the SGII but there is no way (that I've seen in researching it) to get the data off of it to review the log. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I think it would be nice to not have to lug my laptop around to grab the data and store it, but no one, it seems, (other than the way over budget DashDAQ) is making the logging easy. |

That's my two cents and I'm buying a gumball with it, PS - I have this, but I don't use it day-to-day : http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ging-1781.html I don't have a working MPG algorithm. I have collected information on creating a BSFC-based MPG algorithm for my car, but I haven't put it all together. CarloSW2 |

I think this may be able to data log the car data you are looking for. I don't have one myself but I have been thinking about getting one. |
