Bicycle pics - post them up

I haven't seen any thread for bicycle pictures on this site yet, so i'll start one.

These are mine, which are both Schwinn road bikes. The white and red one has studded snow tires and is used when there's snow on the roads or in the forcast. Currently it's ready to go. The silver one is used the rest of the time when the roads are clear.

This is what I ride when I don't have to carry anything or if I want to do a little urban assault riding. There is also a bootleg BMX park ( with city permission) about 2 miles form the house.

I'll post pics of my 'daily riders' when I pull them out of the garage. The year-rounder is rusting away at the moment from this winter's salt:/

MadisonMPG,
Do that have a place for water bottle cages? I can't tell from the pictures but nice ride. Looks like an awesome city commuter?

It does, it is a WONDERFUL commuter. I ride 15-20 miles on it with NO problem at all.

Here's one bike I've had over the years, probably the most entertaining bike. My friend riding it fits it best, at 6'8" although we can turn the fork around for us shorter guys, and flip the handle bars too! It was awesomely customizable. And the brake was on the rear, just a pull string on the top tube. Felt like stopping a train, with the whole cable pull thing. Distance too :)

OK, here's one of mine

thatguitarguy 03-09-2010 11:49 PM

That is COOOL! Did you build that?

robertwb70 03-10-2010 12:07 AM

Yes I did, I was riding a conventional one for a small restaurant downtown on Fri and Sat nights but they went out of business, I was planning on building this from the first night (I consider conventional bike seats torture devices) so when they went under I just accelerated the build. Built in 1 week, 2 weeks for paint (ps-don't use ace hardware paint).

I haven't had time to ride it much in the last couple of semesters but it has accumulated about 400 miles so far.

Agreed. I've barely straddled a "wedgie" since I went recumbent. I'd like to build a bike, but I haven't welded since highschool decades ago. I do want to build a velomobile. I think I'll start with a shell for my tadpole.

How much does your rickshaw weigh?

robertwb70 03-10-2010 12:26 PM

It's a beast, designed for strength with little regard for weight, so it is about 190 lbs and it's had a gross weight of over 1000 lbs a few times.

jmf 03-10-2010 08:10 PM

I made this for my kids from parts I found at the dump. I can peddle it if I sit in the wagon. The next one will be full sized.

My computers are not co-operating lately, but you can see more of the trike in my avatar pic at The Car Cycle There's a link to more pics and lots of tech details from that page.

I finally understand the image in your avatar... That took long enough LOL.

That "Car Cycle" is something I would seriously operate, nix the tailfin, probably. It's a very clean design, from what I see, and looks simple enough that it could be repaired/altered easily and without much hassle to fit any given situation. Congrats on building it, Bob.

might have seen this before- EZ Tadpole- velomobile kit - top on and top off. Over 5 years old now. (thumbnail photos easier) Hole on right side is for 3 fresh batteries. Door for that hole is around here somewhere.

Nice pics and bikes guys.

Unfortunately i'm down to one bicycle right now. I have some maintenance that needs to be done on the silver one, which probably won't be for a while. It's no problem because i actually prefer the white one as a commuter over the silver one anyway. These are pics at the dam that's not too far from my house.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2/Photo191.jpg

I changed out the studded tires for the slicks that were on the silver one. I also put on some fenders to keep myself and the bicycle clean during the wet weather.

I have been thinking about a trailer for what seems like forever. If you are considering going car-lite it is way more versatile than racks with panniers. I would recommend something with two wheels for a more robust load capacity, this one was 84 bux (Nashbar sale) brand new delivered to my door./Users/nancy/Desktop/Nashtraler1.JPG

Major Puffer 03-25-2010 04:04 PM

Sorry, I'm not too swift with my GF's Mac, I did a search but got nothing for posting pics.

Major Puffer 03-25-2010 04:28 PM

I guess I don't have enough posts to download anything. Three down...

Bicycle Bob 03-25-2010 04:55 PM

I wish I had pics of some of the loads I used to carry on my bike. Lumber lashed to the top tube was not uncommon. I did resort to walking the bike when hauling 4 X 8s, though. I'd clamp a 4' scrap of 1" X 2" on the handlebars, and balance the plywood mostly on the seat, steering with the handlebar extension, which also protected the brake cables.

MadisonMPG 03-25-2010 06:46 PM

I actually plan on building a trailer, just for those trips to walmart/LBS.

Major Puffer 03-26-2010 06:10 PM

Getting the hitch right is the only hard part about do it yourself. You might check some manufacturers to see if they sell the hitch only. I think Burley used to do this.

Major Puffer 03-26-2010 06:15 PM

Unfortunately the bike is way harder to negotiate in tight situations with a trailer, surprisingly so at times. I live in a small town so it's really not an issue for me.

Major Puffer 03-26-2010 06:28 PM

Yay for technology!

Like the trailer.

I haven't started my car in a week, feels good.

I made this trailer last year, the hitch still needs some work and it need a fender. I think next time i'll just look for a two wheeled child trailer.

A short length of a heavy-duty V belt or a chunk of truck tire caracass makes a dandy hitch hinge. It can be attached with wing nuts for quick removal.

I just got back from my first ride of the year! It is a beautiful day -- about 74F and just a gentle breeze. There were some sections where you have to ride through some water, but nothin' I couldn't handle!

I rode a little over 8.5 miles mostly on rough paved and gravel roads. I live on a steep hill, so the end of my rides always end with a lot of exertion!

MadisonMPG 04-04-2010 11:29 PM

What kind of bike is that Neil?

I probably road and walked a total of about 25 today, got a nice little tan going on...

My bicycle is a Bianchi "Advantage" -- it is already about 15+ years old. I really like this bike -- it just feels right to ride. I love the indexed 21 speeds, and the brakes are far better than my old 1978 Raleigh Gran Prix; which also rode like a buckboard wagon, by comparison.

This is what they call a "hybrid" bike -- better on the roads than a mountain bike, but capable of trail riding; though soft sand and rough rocks would not be too swift...

My wife has a similar one, with a bit shorter frame. We both test rode several other bikes, and we both agreed that this one was head and shoulders above the others. Easy to pedal, smooth ride, nimble handling, great shifting and brakes... Everything is very Goldilocks! :)

MadisonMPG 04-05-2010 09:32 PM

Cool. ^^^

Any more pics anybody?

How's this for a different kind of bike?

Is that the Apple iBike?

(Might not be fun in a cross-wind.)

My neighbor. Everyone in his family rides a unicycle.
