I love projects like this! Keep 'em coming.

I'm curious how the new antenna does. Keep us posted.

Do you notice a difference in acceleration or better handling with the reduced weight? 50KG is quite a lot, but I honestly don't notice much of a difference between just me driving, and driving with my wife in the passenger seat.
I just made an upper grill block out of white coroplast, and it looks good and is holding up well. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...m/KIMG0019.jpg I've left the top gap alone since it wasn't as easy to wedge the coroplast in there, and there needs to be easy access to the engine. Half of the lower grill has been crudely blocked with pipe insulation. I might block the lower section off as well, since temps haven't been going above 185F. |
Be careful when blocking both. My Accord worked very well for several months, but then started overheating. Learned that the blocking caused the old fans to run much more than they were used to and the fans failed. Had the expense of replacing fans...:(

We are talking about only 4-5% difference in weight, so maybe my butt dyno isn't calibrated precise enough. Then again, I would think the difference in octane would be on the same order of performance difference. |

Thanks for the idea of reducing the amount of windshield washer fluid carried in the under-hood container. Never gave that a thought until reading your post.
I seldom use the windshield washer and may try removing the entire unit for more weight loss. Years ago we got along just fine without such luxuries and thought nothing of it. |

If you've got a near black car it might just end up at the same temp, but on a light colour car, it will be hotter inside :( My aim is for 400w of panels and an alternator delete. |
Somebody got told too much by their parents what a unique snowflake they were.
I didn't see any completely original ideas in this thread or the others. Moveable grill blocks? Antenna mods? Weight reduction? RAGEQUIT! |
My son has Asperger's.
Looks familar, this. A shame, I so want to help that kid, like mine. |

We think that our dad has Asperger's. My brother is Autistic. I do not understand why women cry and why I am supposed to care. I just hate how many people still do not know what Asperger's is, they just start laughing at me. "What kind of burger?!" [snort] |
My son has not the slightest idea what other people are experiencing. My wife was ill a few days ago and went to bed early. He just cannot grasp that. He does not feel tired himself, then his mother cannot be tired?
At times he seems to display empathy, but we are never sure whether that is real or just rehearsed role play. My son can also get angry on the slightest of issues and then there is no measure on his retaliation. Luckily it is mostly words, but things like 'I want the whole world to die' (f.i. when told it is time to go to bed, after ample prewarning) show his lack of moderation. What is fascinating is that he is able to deal with little disappointments most of the time, sometimes accepting them without any emotion whatsoever, or hardly a shrug. But gradually his display of emotions verges towards normal; nowadays he may also show slight disappointment about something, in a normal fashion. We get help of course, but the insurance companies have dropped support for Aspergers lately for periods longer than a year; this was sanctioned by our goverment... We can deduct costs from the income tax, but the level is set high and depends on weird rules. The bureaucracy and delays for getting additional help at school are horrible and exhausting. Enough to rant about. We live in hope, fear and agony. We cherish the good days. My son is a very nice kid and popular at school despite his problems. My son knew the Greek alphabet at age 5, including the archaic letters. He is still in diapers (at 6). How many parents have to change their kids diapers while the kid recites the Greek alphabet backwards, correctly determines the day of the week for any date in the past or future, ponders about the universe, etc...? |
