boost gauge?

hey all,
i got a boost gauge for free….i was wondering if i could use it as a vacuum gauge?

That depends, does it also measure vacuum?

I was under the impression a boost gauge was just a vacuum gauge.

boost vs vacuum is opposite in my mind. One measures suck one measures blow. Positive vs negative pressure.

My boost gauge has both on the same dial. The left 1/3 of the face is vacuum the right 2/3rds is boost. It will function as one or the other but not both at the same time.

It is a Equus brand

its just a boost gauge not both, but a boost gauge hooks up to the waste gate? on the turbo? mine will be hooked up to an engine vacuum source i wonder if the gauge will read with opposite pressure? or will it be the same:confused:

It won't work, since it is not capable of reading vacuum which is lower than atmospheric pressure, versus postive pressure which is boost.

The boost gauge reads the turbo's positive psi pressure which moves the needle right.
A vacuum source on it would move the needle left / negative pressure.

Sounds like yours was not marked to go backwards - but it might , you never know until you try , despite being no scale to measure it with you could watch for peak vacuum or what ever. try it on a vacuum source or draw a breath threw it and see if the needle moves backwards.

We need a picture!

I have a boost gauge (unsure of brand) on a Volvo 940 Turbo and you can definitely use it as a vacuum gauge.I stay out of boost 90% of the time I drive it and use it as a vacuum gauge, and it does a great job!The needle can show you negative pressure(vacuum) as well as positive (boost).
