Storm of the Century?

I've been nerding out about volcanoes lately, and I read about Mt. Pinatubo and it's possible link to what was called "The Storm of the Century." Anyways, I don't know of any Pinatubo scale volcanism lately, but wish me luck as I'm right in the middle of what looks like may become the next storm of the century. 2-3' of snow forecast for my area from now (about an inch on the ground already) to Saturday morning.

That's funny because in 2009 or 2010 the dooms day global warming believers were telling us "snowy winters would soon be a thing of the past".
I was like sign me up for that. Of course they lied. Just more fact less sensationalism and broken promises.

Yeah, I hear you there. The weather reporting tried to spin this as a "climate change" thing. Hogwash, October blizzards don't happen up here every year, especially not of this magnitude, but there have been storms like this before, and worse. I know of one that hit my home town in the 50's that there are pictures of, 4+' of snow on the ground, with drifts in excess of 10'.

We had a blizzard here in late 2015 the largest drifts were taller than tractor trailers in a few places. Tractor trailers that got stuck became their own snowbergs.
This is Eastern plains NM, not in the the mountains.

Since we're sharing anecdotes, the weather here has been about what it always has. This summer was about the coolest I can remember. It used to snow and stick more frequently 30 years ago too, and now snow is less common, and doesn't often stick when it happens. We're dying out here from all this moderate weather!
