A/C Timer

Greetings all. In my wifes van and basically every car I own once the a/c is up and running and the interior is cooled it is too cold. The current options are to adjust the temperature which just mixes in heat with the a/c or what i usually do is manually hit the ac button off/on. I think newer cars do cycle the compressor based on the temperature setting but nothing I have does.

So heres my idea. Make some kind of variable circuit that will go in line to the compressor and cycle it on/off based on time. So on 30 sec off 30 sec, on 1 min off 1 min, on 2 min off 2 min, etc.. I would have a knob (variable resistor?) on the dash to adjust the time.

I know a little about circuits and could probably make something if I knew what to get and how to wire it up. Anyone have any thoughts or insight on this?

I'd control the compressor with a thermostat.

A thermostat seems to be your best option. BTW maybe you could also improve the insulation around the HVAC ducts and put some of those gel pads inside the evaporator box to keep them cooler for a long time after the air-conditioner is switched off.
