Can I expect 40% fuel saviings using a dustbin fairing?

If I bought this dustbin fairing, can I expect a 40% increase in fuel, or in my case range since I would be using an electric motorcycle?

I am thinking about buying this fairing used for $500 and I just want to make sure it is worth it before I spend the cash.

I know each motorcycle is differetn, but any guesstmate is appreciated.

On what bike? It might not work well with an air cooled bike.

I believe this model is used on the Hayes diesel bikes. You will want to loose the red piece and add a tail section. Build quality is less than perfect but from a reputable vendor.

With just the front of the motorcycle being covered like it is, I doubt that the savings will be that much.

The real savings start with attached flow at the front, which the dustbin will give, and adding a nicely tapered tail. Now *that's* were the 40% increase will kick in.

Look at all the old fairing shapes from the Craig Vetter High Mileage Contest. They all have tails.

I believe Craig Vetter had said Terry Hershner doubled his range with the addition of Craigs nose and tail.Your going to have to build a tail to get the 40 plus gain,but the nose is the hard part,the tail is pretty easy to build He was going about 2 hours and 150 miles between charging on his cross country run,amazing.Aerodynamics are all about the shape,you can have a small frontal area,with a high cd.Craig's nose kit has worked pretty good on a few bikes,Craigs friend Alan's 250cc Kawasaki doubled his fuel mileage with the nose and tail.Who makes it,Shultz? If it has been tested on his or another bike,you could achieve close to the same with a tail.Good luck

he emailed me and told me about 20% gain with just the dustbin fairing.

I doubt a tail would give me another 20% maybe 10 to 15% more if I am lucky since there is no way to lower the seat on my motorcycle and frontal area plays a large roll in aerodynamics.

The combination of a good nose and tail can yield double the FE by cutting the Cd in half. If you can't lower the seat, try lowering your shoulders.
