Car prices are still insane.

I'm selling the Prius finally. I decided this since I found a t-boned@60mph Prius that I wanted to use as a parts car. However, the guy wanted $1,200 OBO. Even though I was the first to call, several people called him afterwards offering him even more, for an apparently impossible to make road-worthy car. Since I didn't offer even more I didn't get the car.

I can't understand why anyone would want an old 200k hybrid that was so smashed up.

Anyhow, I'm going to see if I can get a similar or higher price for my not-smashed-up, 200k, running Prius. :D

The wife and I went Jeeping with some friends in an old Jeep. Now she (and I) kind of want a Jeep-like vehicle. I immediately thought of a Suzuki Samarai, but it looks like those are going for $10,000 and up, some as much as $25,000.

Maybe I should put a lift kit on the Avalon and call it good.

My younger brother still has the Samurai he bought new in 1984. When I ride shotgun, my knees hit the dashboard.

Why not the Jeep in a box?

Hagerty says you will need an existing title and they must ship to a commercial address. Jeepsterman offers the Willys MB for $3K. Without drivetrain and axles. But with the correct split rims.

So anything from Toyota Hilux to Tesla is possible.

Nearly all junk and good condition used cars get sold and shipped overseas
Due to the trade imbalance Foreign bidders pay nothing to ship cars home, labor is basically free and they don’t care how it’s fixed.

It’s not uncommon for a wreck to sell for double-triple to foreign bidders compared to what it sells for domestically.

Government needs to add a large export tarriff on used cars so our children’s future cars aren’t all exported. This is also why the age of cars is rapidly increasing, 1-5 year old cars are rarer than 20 year old ones.

You would think if the government wants “old” cars off the market they would try to keep new ones here but nobody cares.

After the Chinese flu and the war in Ukraine, prices got even more unreadonable.

$1200 for a functional set of parts is not unreasonable and would be considered somewhat of a bargain. My son just bought a salvage 1999 Toyota 4runner just for the engine so he can swap into his '92 and go up hills at freeway speed. 1500 for a motor kit with all the parts is a deal even if he has to fully rebuild the block.

On Sunday, the $45 magnetron I needed to repair the microwave arrived, so I fixed it. Same day, a coil in my garage door broke. Spent Monday evening taking the coils off and ordered 2 springs for $140. Thought about swapping my Wayne Dalton to a torsion system, but that would have been $400, parts and labor.

Always something wearing out.

Yes, but $2,000 for a set of parts I have no idea what condition they are actually in may not be a bargain.

Did someone say insane?

Cathie Wood’s INSANE Prediction

Based on Wright's Law times are going to change. First they're cheaper, then they are way cheaper. But also 1000 times safer.

I was considering a car in running order, not one on its way to the scrapyard after having all its parts still worth a dime salvaged.

Wholesale used car prices down 11.1% YoY in July. Compact sedans down the most at 15% YoY

https://www.kbb.com/car-news/wholesa...till-dropping/

New car prices also falling month over month but still up a bit YoY

Deals can be had depending on make and model. Factory rebates under MSRP and other incentives are back for some brands with too many cars on the lot. As noted in another thread you can lease a $50K Ioniq 5 for less than a $28K Chevy Bolt as the Bolt has only 23 days of inventory and the Ioniq is over 100 days.
