Cheapest gas you've seen?

With this crazyness going on lately, the price of gas has been plummeting. So, what is the lowest price you've seen for gas?

I personally saw $1.35 the other day. However, I just got a text from my mom that she filled up at $1.15 at a Costco.

redneck 04-01-2020 04:14 PM

.

Currently according to gas buddy at BJ’s

Regular $1.53

Diesel. $2.17

>

JSH 04-01-2020 06:20 PM

The cheapest gas I've ever seen was about $0.95 a gallon back in the mid-90's.

I haven't needed to buy gas or diesel lately but Gas Buddy tells me:

$2.84 / gallon - Diesel
$2.29 / gallon - Regular

redpoint5 04-01-2020 06:43 PM

$2.15 PON 87 - Costco
$2.45 Diesel - Towne Pump

As I said, when bulk diesel hits $2 I'm putting in an order for 500 gallons.

ksa8907 04-01-2020 09:24 PM

Who knows, who cares! With my new commute and working from home since March 16th, the last time I filled up was Feb 8th!

Ecky 04-02-2020 06:12 AM

$2.09 for 87 everywhere I've seen in Vermont. Around $2.45 for 89 and $2.75 for 93.

Piotrsko 04-02-2020 09:38 AM

Still 3.18 for diesel here RUL is 2.50.

rmay635703 04-02-2020 01:00 PM

Our prices are finally dropping in the last week, under two weeks ago many stations were around $2.

Now $1.39 locally (funny how much difference in price there can be now)

But Appleton is $1.11 for 88 e15,
too bad I’m under lockdown I’m overdue for my monthly trip there.

Haven’t seen these prices since 2005 when the great sucking started.

cowmeat 04-02-2020 02:00 PM

I filled up my wife's Explorer last night and it was $1.86 a gallon for regular here in central Florida.
I think I saw it somewhere on my way to work this morning for $1.79

That's crazy! Tax alone is $0.678/gallon here.

I filled up last for $2.899/gallon. But that was over a week ago.

I've barely driven in several weeks now, and a tank will likely last over a month now, rather than part of a week.

Daox 04-02-2020 08:07 PM

Yeah it is. I'm not totally sure why its so low here. We are usually around the national average or so...

An Army buddy recently drove back to Arizona from the east coast and complained that everywhere was a dollar cheaper than Phoenix. For some reason gas is usually significantly cheaper in Show Low. Gas Buddy says the cheapest gas here is $2.249, but the other day I drove half an hour to drop off one packet at the other school and saw this:
https://ecomodder.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1586572435

Gas Buddy shows $1.979 at Alvarez Auto Center and $1.999 at Country Store on Concho Highway. That is eight miles east of Snowflake while I live 21 miles south. I have always wondered what was down Concho Highway, but I have a nasty suspicion that it is Concho.

Yes, another 22 miles and it dead-ends on a highway that I never heard of with another one going northeast to...

Holbrook...

A little further east and you get Saint John's.

I don't like any of these places! :)

Gas Buddy shows a Valero in Tempe charging $1.999, but the next cheapest is $2.299.

The cheapest gas in Arizona is $1.299 in Three Points. I have never heard of it!

Apparently there are dozens of towns in my state. Dozens!

This is twenty miles southwest of Tucson.

Two stations in Whiteriver are charging $1.499.

I tried to get a full-time job there. It was supposed to pay over $50,000, but I do not think the district wanted to pay $100,000 or whatever the agency would have charged them.

That is 36 miles away.

Do you guys think that gas prices and the rest of our economy will continue spiraling down the drain? I have an unreasonable desire to fill up my Civic with $1.50 gas!

Will I ever have that opportunity again?!

If only she had a dash...

rmay635703 04-10-2020 11:12 PM

I’m still trying to figure out why gas in WAusau is 50% higher than other areas of the state.

I’ve been waiting to fill until prices drop here

me and my metro 04-10-2020 11:37 PM

$1.99 on I-5 mile marker 228 Oregon.

redneck 04-19-2020 05:34 PM

.

A fishing buddy just bought gas on the Iroquois reservation just off the I-90 in New York.

$0.88 per. gal.

https://www.gasbuddy.com/GasPrices/NewYorkState

Supposedly it was cheaper last week.

E10 $1.15, E15 $1.05, E85 $.999 near work, E10 $1.40 near home.

Tahoe_Hybrid 04-20-2020 12:53 PM

gas stations are still scamming at 2.99 a gallon

i think at this point we need a FULL FEDERAL investigation on this price gouging..

total scam artiest pricing..

tax is 86cent a gallon that means the station is getting 2.24 a gallon

Yeah price gouging

Similar to Wausau WI, they are always 30-70 cents a gallon higher than 20 miles away.

JSH 04-20-2020 01:16 PM

The price of Western Canadian Crude when negative yesterday during trading.

This is not a good sign for a speedy recovery.

Price gouging is a made up, fictitious concept. The price is always as high as the market will bear, and we don't call the prices we're used to "gouging". We only call it gouging when the supply and demand sets a price that we really don't like.

The only way petrol stations could get away with artificially high prices is if they were all colluding.

If you're upset at the prices, just know that CA has the highest taxation on petrol of all the states. No matter what the cost of petrol is, 80 cents is baked in as taxes.

considering the lowest price in the state for gas is $1.55

and

$2.99 is more then 10% of $1.55, it is PRICE gouging

the market does not bare that price..
oil is at 1-2$ a barrel right now as i have predicted.. i told you guys on monday it was going to crash! in a panic sell off!

oil storage tanks are over flowing with product..

as a state of emergency as been declared

Once a state of emergency is declared, California Penal Code § 396 prohibits “excessive and unjustified increases” on a range of basic goods and services. Barring justification, an excessive increase is an increase of more than 10 percent above the price charged by the person in question for the same goods or services immediately before the declaration of emergency. (Cal. Penal Code § 396(a).)

There's no monopoly at petrol stations; so if you're seeing $2.99, that is the market price.

Did the price per gallon increase more than 10% after a state of emergency was declared? That would be up to CA to investigate and enforce (though it's pointless).

At any rate, that law is flawed and hurts everyone. If they had economists writing the laws, everything would be better. Instead they have politicians that don't know even the basics of supply and demand. The language of the law undermines itself rendering it ineffective. "prohibits excessive and unjustified increases". I can justify a price increase by saying I'm competing in a free market where supply/demand set the price. Unless the state can show collusion or other anti-competitive behavior, they've got to accept that answer.

As I've said, there is no such thing as price gouging, and you've provided no evidence that there is. An arbitrary law saying prices can't rise more than 10% is not evidence.

I'm annoyed that the price of TP hasn't gone up enough so that there's some available to purchase. It's been 2 months now since I began looking for TP and haven't seen any since. Fortunately my family is already frugal so we've gotten by with the few rolls given to us, but I'll be more desperate in a month if things don't improve.

Eggs were sold out at one point, and then I noticed egg prices shot up by about 1/3rd. There's now eggs on the shelf available for purchase.

HaroldinCR 04-20-2020 03:14 PM

Just read on Fox news, West Texas crude is priced at 1 cent for barrel.

Looking at Halliburton at under $8.00/share +/- in todays trading.

target charged us 7.99 for a dozen of eggs do you think that was price gouging? normaly organic eggs are about 3.95 or so a dozen

if you want toilet paper get in line in the morning you will be able to get some

I my self stocked up back in july of last year when they had the 6.4/7.1 quake... have been keeping everything in regular rotation since then ..

I did see toilet paper at the store when i was at walmart NOT the best toilet paper but RV toilet paper i would check at the walmart near you

just ask them where they keep the RV stuff(don't mention TP as they will just say it's out of stock) it should be in the automotive section..

Xist 04-20-2020 04:01 PM

When I have seen scarce supplies in-stock, they have always been the normal price, but we do not have a Target.

I have been at a number of stores when they opened. They usually did not receive paper products. If you are desperate, you can try blue shop towels, just put them in a ziplock bag and throw them away.

RV toilet paper is brilliant! The two local Walmarts do not have any in-stock, but I could pick up this or another type on Friday: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Georgia-P...l-8ct/16351821

For $40, I sure hope that is enough to share!

roosterk0031 04-20-2020 05:06 PM

As of 4/15/20 whole sale terminal price for E10-87octane was $.53 a gallon +.29 state taxes and $.184 federal. 87 Octane E0 $.66 = .305 + .184. E70 $0.90 before taxes.

As soon as I heard about the TP shortage I ordered 2 24 mega rolls packs of Charmin Soft to the door for $52 from Walmart, had to spend $50 for free shipping. Grocery store had commercial stuff for $1.50 a roll over the weekend. Dollar Stores are beginning to have some in stock.

Meat packing plants are being hit hard around here, might want to think about that. I'm going out in the morning.

A Bugatti La Voiture Noire is $12,500,000. Is that price gouging? It's like having a stutter to say price gouging. You're just saying price price. It's the point at which both the seller and buyer agree on. It doesn't matter what emotions well up inside when the price is displayed to me, it still remains the price. If I want to sell something which I own, there is nobody else on this planet that has the authority to tell me what price it's going to be. If there was someone with that authority, then I never had rightful ownership. If there isn't legal ownership, then there is no such thing as theft.

I buy TP to last 2 years at a time; it just so happened I was ready to buy the next 2 years supply at the moment it wasn't available. Good tip to look for RV stuff. My parents can get into Costco during the early senior hours (how is Costco not sued by the government for violating a protected class; ageism?) and the TP is gone during that time. People shopping at regular hours don't stand a chance of getting TP.

Good thing we have legislation offering some protection against fictitious occurrences.

God damn just look up "price gouging" and learn something.

We have laws "protecting" us from fake stuff all the time. Look up "hate crime". If someone commits a crime against an arbitrarily protected class, they have committed a "hate crime". On the other hand, I guess if someone particularly disliked an individual and committed a crime, it would be a love crime?

When I studied price gouging, all I could find is that it's based on when you feel something bad inside, and all the economists agreed that laws protecting our fragile feelings harms all parties.

The 4am gas station breakfast meetings are well known Around here, now that we have internet it’s thankfully much easier to fix prices in private.

It’s also easier to set prices when an area has only one distributor and punitive state level price protection policies against setting prices below other local stations.

Thankfully I’m a “critical employee “ and can fill up on my way to or from work 20 miles away and cut my fuel bill by a 1/3.

I’m guessing that extra 20 miles justifies the 70 cent price premium right?

I had to look it up since I don't follow the news. Not sure what this has to do with the topic:

"Shkreli, 34, was convicted of two counts of securities fraud relating to charges that he lied to investors while sweet-talking them into pumping more capital into his failing hedge funds, and one count of conspiracy."

Anyhow, I know all the econmists get it, which is why I refer to those experts often.

roosterk0031 04-20-2020 07:47 PM

Gas station was sold out of E15 & E85, had to get E10 at $1.25. 30 mpg on a E40ish blend is still pretty good with the Impala. I'm terrible about topping off so the Indicated 29.3 is probably closer.

(Edit had blends sold out wrong, back in stock today, E15 $1.149)

RedDevil 04-21-2020 03:34 AM

Crude oil is negative, -$37 a barrel. Futures, overproduction and nowhere to store it.
This can't stay like that for long, we may get some big spills soon otherwise.

Cheapest gas is €1.409 a liter (about $5.80 a gallon) around here. That is a full cent less than when I filled up a couple of weeks ago and 2 cents less than last month. Oh horror.

You can fill up a Prius for $20 unless you coasted in on fumes.

Xist 04-24-2020 02:02 AM

Until I bought my Accord, the furthest that I ever went on a tank was 60.2 miles in my first car, a 1987 Honda Prelude Si.

I ran out of gas on the highway and coasted into the station.

I drove that car 75,000 miles in 4 years and that was the only time that I broke 40 MPG.

Where were you guys back then?! :)

I have had four 40+ MPG tanks in my Accord in 42,230.8 miles, so I expect 3 more 40+ MPG tanks before I hit 75,000 miles.

There is one gas station in the Phoenix area with gas for $1.659.

I am unsure that I have ever seen gas cheaper in the valley than Show Low. Millions of people live in the area and there are only ten stations cheaper than $1.899, which is the cheapest gas anywhere near where I usually go.

24¢ cheaper in the city that shouldn't exist, a monument to man's arrogance.

The average is $2.249, though. It fell 41¢ in the last month, 80¢ in 5 months, and almost $1 since 5/6.

It hit $3.93 around Xistday, 2012.

What was that in 2020 dollars?
