Chevy Bolt EV Concept - 200 Mile Range

GM revealed a Chevy Bolt EV concept that they claim will have a 200 mile range, and cost $30,000 after incentives.

Except for the glass roof, and some parts of the dash, it looks to be close to ready for production.

The utility of such a vehicle is VERY attractive.

Asthetically, I'm not a fan of the front end, but I really like the back. The interior would need to be tamed for production I think.

Orange is the New...EV

The new Bolt sure does wear the new EV template shape and color. http://i.imgur.com/8mnfNPj.jpg

Aside from the attractive utility they may provide I see a lot of BMW and a little Honda Fit similarities but I really like the appearance and fancy the orange color as well! I used to think the Leafs were uglier than dog buttock but once I saw them in person they are not so bad at all. Wonder if the reverse will happen when I see the Bolt in person.

I think it is harder to flatter a car with a camera - wide angle lenses (and optical distortions in general) can be problematic. Almost all cars look better in person, than in pictures, I have found. But if it looks good in pictures, it almost always looks even better in person.

Cars that are built to look like it has a face have never appealed to me because I'm utilitarian, and prefer a car to function well over look cute.

That said, I'd happily purchase a used Bolt at around $13k, whenever they get that cheap. 200 miles can get me everywhere except for road trips.

Maybe having other EV options on the table will push the used prices on the Leaf down to a level I would consider.

Any predictions on when the car would be available at dealerships, assuming Chevy goes forward with production?

EDIT: Looks like it would come out in 2017 as a 2018 model.

One thing I look forward to is mentioned:

Quote:

The Bolt Connect app would provide drivers with an unprecedented level of vehicle control. Incorporating automatic park-and-retrieval technology†, owners will be able to exit the vehicle and tell Bolt EV to park itself while they run errands, then summon it to their location when they’re done.

You have to really squint your eyes to see a face ... which works on any car.

Some are saying it could be mid-2016: Chevrolet Bolt EV Forum • View topic - Coming in 2017, maybe 2018?

But my guess it same as yours, more like 2018, but mostly because I'm cynical :)

The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class was also initially released as an all-electric, and at a certain point this concept resembled it.
