Chevy Cobalt (E85) Bonneville speed record (aero mods)

Of note:
  • full grille block
  • lowered ride height
  • smooth wheel covers
  • narrow (4.5 in) wheels
  • full belly pan
  • no side mirrors
  • no windshield wipers
  • extended trunk plane (presumably to reduce lift & drag)
There's another pic from the rear of the car at the first link, with zooms.

If I'm not mistaken, the vertical spoilers on the roof are there to prevent lift in the event the car gets sideways at speed.

156.073 mph. Fuel consumption figures not provided http://www.gassavers.org/images/smilies/smile.gif

thanks for your answer and for the welcome .Cd;)

not any application for turbolence or deviation of the airflow from lateral area at the top of roof?

Fantastic article Fabrio !
Thanks again for posting the link !

" what of tasks? "

Can you be more specific ?

fabrio. 03-23-2008 12:02 PM

I can try: upper the car the pressure is lower of lateral area (comprehensible?).
Causes this pressure difference, (in my mind), the air come from lateral at upper of car (probably little quote of air flux).
This diverted flow is cause vortices and induced drag.....it is an ipotetical opinion and I whonder an opinion for this one.
Similar case, is the deviaton flow from lateral at the car underbody

thanks

So what you are asking is if the air pressure on the top of the car is lower than the sides ( lateral area ) ?
And you are wondering if this is what is causing the vortices and induced drag behind the car ?
Also, you are wondering about effect that the airflow has as it travels from the side of the car body and under the car ?

Am I understanding correctly ?

I think than a quote the air travel from the side car on the top of car, and then the roof rail can help this travel .
