Choosing voltage meters?

Do you use one of those cigarette lighter battery voltage meters? Is it accurate? Which is most accurate? I would rather not buy a $80 dash-mounted meter, such as this, if I can get a reasonably good lighter plug-in, such as the "batteryGenius" or perhaps this. Know how accurate the cheaper ones are?

...I have a Cyberdyne that's similar to that GlowShift, except it displays 'one-decimal' point, ie: XX.X VDC. A 'no-decimal' display is not accurate enough in my opinion.

...works great for "plug-n-play" diagnostics when trying to diagnose a "no-start" problem as being either (a) bad battery or (b) bad alternator.

People are getting $80 for a voltmeter with one decimal point or less !?!??? I'm in the wrong line of business.

Hahaha! Thanks guys. I went with the glowshift because it is about the same price ($44 and free shipping) and since it is wired in instead of the cig lighter, I suspect maybe it will be more acurate. Don't really know, but since the price was similar... I took it.

Cheers,
james

I got a "12v" classic unit from harbor freight for $5 and it works great.

I have seen people complaining that these cheap ones are not accurate, and I need to know it will be accurate and durable. The reason is I now have a deep cycle battery, will be plugging it in at night, shutting off the alt for 12-24 miles of driving. I will run the battery low, and I will need to know when to switch the alt back on. But I don't doubt yours may be great... can I have it? ;)

if you wanted accuracy you should have bought a cheap $20 to $30 Digital Multimeter and taped it to your dash.

I have one. Don't want to tape anything to my dash. In fact, I'll be trying to integrate this one into my dash rather than mounting it. There are lots of open spaces for the optional items a DX did not get. I have a space more than large enough for the approx 1" wide digital display. Maybe it'll work.
