civic vx 02 sensor UPDATE and lean burn monitor ?
So...
I finally got my new o2 sensor for my new vx. I read a few reviews from a seemingly sharp guy over on gassavers and he said that he used the $77 one from ebay and that it worked great. 1992-2000 Honda Civic Upstream O2 Oxygen Sensor: sg335-REA1134-36531-P07-003-36531-P2M-A01 Auto Parts Direct To You | AutoPartsDirectToYou.com I decided to order it and it arrived today. I popped it into my vx and went for a drive...WOW it felt great. So I went back home, got my voltmeter and hooked it up to monitor the lean burn, and went for a drive. Sure enough the lean burn works great with this o2 sensor.:thumbup::D I can feel it engage, and see the voltage go to the positive side when it engages (around +.52 at 60mph). It is really nice having the meter hooked up so I can see that I am in lean burn (although nowhere in my drive around did I ever kick it out unless I really tried). Now what I would like to know is does anyone have a step by step to making a light-up lean burn monitor (like a green light that turns on)? Please be very thorough in your explanation b/c I am an electronics dummy. Just thought I would let everyone know about the cheap o2 sensor and pick your brains a little more. I am ready to start tracking mileage and see what this thing can do!!!:D |
I'm with ya on this one, I want a Eco-light too!

Ebay 380329349721.... not cheap but nice
Im using a lm1 wideband moniter...off of my turbo car |
I like this gauge, but a simple LED would be nice too
I want an upshift led (yellow) A lean burn led (green) And a vtec led (red) So I can better my driving habits... I think the lean burn led could be hooked up to a8 The vtec led to a4 And the upshift led pin I'm still looking for... |
As far as the leanburn light goes I use the jcar multi voltage monitor but if you can design the circuit yourself the input to your LED would be to the IP+ pump cell positive terminal which is D14 (orange/blue wire) on the ECU. I find that it is best not to obey the upshift light. Just stay in leanburn as much as possible.

I just got an HX and one of the first things I found myself wanting was a lean burn monitor as well. Are there perhaps any step by step guides for something similar so I could just like connect to D14 instead of whatever they say and get a lean burn indicator?
A simple green LED for "lean burn on" would be fine, I don't need to make anything terribly complicated. |
Try a led with a resistor. Tap the pos side to a8 (you will need a harness pin/wire) and the neg side to an alligator clip grounded to the body somewhere...
I did this and it comes on during startup (with the other gauge lights) but I haven't been into leanburn yet (new swap, still working out the bugs) Let me know how this works! I think it will be what you are after |

So i clicked on this link and it takes me to a $200 O2 sensor. Where is this $77 one you speak of? |

Hobbs adj vac switch could work to turn on & off a light.maybe 2 hobbs switches since lean burn kicks in & out at 2 different vaccum levels. I like a vacuum gauge because There is a lot of peddle in lean burn mode where the car doesnt go any faster.Example:I can drive a steady 55mph in lean burn at 8in hg.then let off the gas peddle to 15in hg & still be going the same speed but gets better mpg.
