I guess the economy car is the new hot-rod. I don't have sound to be able to hear, but it dosen't look like anything ground breaking. I just wanted to share.

Good footage, shows Hypermiling in a good light.

Pushing the car to get it rolling.. OK, have to ask whats that save.. my little crx is so light you can push it around pretty easy.. but come on, it cant make a huge difference.

this guys needs a engine cut switch and start button on his accord.. it would be so much simpler.. or a manual trans to bump start.. wonder how many starters he goes through a year.. not to mention he may be trashing his auto tranny coasting with the engine off... don't know if the accord is Ok with that.

SOrry but this video made the guy look "hyper" in a bad way.. again i know how media will sway anything.. but if this guy had a cut swith and starter button on his shifter it would look far calmer to the average person, and really hypermiling is really a calm activity , your not speeding through traffic and your anticipating things far sooner than any one else on the road.. its very conservative driving style in my opinion.. probably safer once you get good at it becuase your enticipating everything far sooner than most drivers..

its a decent clip but.. its too extreme. It's just like the biodiesel special on dirty jobs, that guy was doing it all wrong too!

He's got 100,000 miles on that accord. With the original tires, even. It's fully ok with the transmission on that model.

He has replaced the starter - ONCE - at 97,000 miles. That's within statistical probability for "normal" use, even. 100,000 miles at 48mpg vs the epa rating of 24 = 2000 gallons saved. At $3.00 a gallon, that's $6,000. More than enough to pay for a starter.

Wayne is the same guy who, two weeks ago, drove a CBS prius from Chicago to New York on a single tank of gas - 800 miles.

If anyone's doing Hypermiling right, it's Wayne.

100k on the tires is impressive.. hell the stock tires on my colorado were gone in 25k..

his starter lasted quite long considering.. I'm rather impressed.. and yeah easly paid for that starter 10 times over.... not to mention the tires too.

Im not saying hes doing it wrong, hes making it to "stressfull" for most people to adopt any of it when really its a not stressfull activity, your not rushing and your driving safer for the most part.. he could have made it look "easier"

Having driven with him, I'll say the video is pretty "calm" compared to driving with him in real life.

Hypermiling can be calm, or intense, depending on your goals. Pretty good isn't good enough for me, so I choose the intense option. You're right, though. Most people will just tune out unless it is easy.

hehehe...btw,i plan on taking the wife for a roadtrip in a rental prius.I plan on 'experimenting' with the techniques written about here.I think she will kill me within a few hrs of hypermiling.

Yea, there was actually a write up on this very same thing a while ago...they pretty much said exactly what was in the video...even the "death turn" they described in the article I read was in that video. I wish I could manage to get 50mpg in my car...my little Camry is just a very very fuel thirsty 2.2L...
