CRXFi - Chapter Two

Wonderboy's CRXFi has been passed on to me. I picked it up in Binghamton on July 30th 2016. It's a 1988 Honda CRX HF with a 1992 Geo Metro XFi 3-cylinder engine and transmission in it. Click here for the original build thread. It runs and drives, but needs some work. The biggest issue is a blown head gasket. I have another 1992 XFi engine that needs to be assembled, I'll probably put that in the CRX and fix the other engine later to put in my 1994 Metro. And I will be replacing the solid engine mounts with rubber! Something I've wanted to do for years! :D

The Geo/Suzuki G10 engine:

What color should I paint it? I'm kinda leaning towards a darker green.

Woohoo!

Sublime green. Dodge Charger colour... google it. :)

Not much of an update, but I picked up a set of 14" Civic HX wheels.

Bought this Hot Wheels yesterday on impulse in the Supermarket. How is your CRX doing?

I'll have to look for that Hot Wheels! I have the mid-engined 1st gen HW CRX.

I got very distracted by two Insights! I haven't done anything with the CRXFi for way too long. But I do think about it! The last thing I did was buy some rust repair rear quarter panels. The rusty rear quarters were covered with a thick layer of Bondo and it was starting to come off in large chunks. I've practiced welding on scrap body panels, but the results were not good! I don't know if it's me or my welder. I can either make lumps with no penetration, or cut right through the sheet metal.

With the Bondo removed on one side and some primer:

Getting skilled ain't easy. Had a disappointing imperfect tint application today... dudes get paid to do this, and they do it better than I.

I've been wondering how this has been going as well since many people are getting a lot of time lately. The sweet siren's song of the Insight is what drew me away from the CRXFi project as well ;)
