Custom UG install, faux touch screen
So I wasn't happy with attempt #1, not happy at all. Ok it was a fail, but I was on the right track, so I scoured the internet looking for something better.
Found these 3m Command mini hook's, and used JB Weld plasticweld epoxy putty to sculpt things to fit. http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...?image_id=8977 I used scotch tape on the bracket as a bond breaker so the plasticweld wouldn't stick to it. Mixed up some epoxy putty and worked in. After 3 hrs. cure time I was able to file and tune the plasticweld. http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=8985 3m removable tape thingy. http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...?image_id=9001 Removed the dual lock industrial velcro and installed the new set up. The UG bracket slips on the hook just like it would on a UG attachment system. This work's much much better, a light press on the corner of the UG activates the button's nicely. The 3 button contact point's on the mirror are a small and medium self adhesive rubber drawer bumpers stacked up. http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...?image_id=8841 http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...?image_id=9009 http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=9017 |
That's wicked.

thanx 98 :)
now I just have to figure out which gauges to run, I've changed them 3 times... so far |
i like the idea but can't really visualize how it mounts, maybe i'm too tired to understand. could you gat a closer in focus pic where it mounts to the mirror?
i used the supplied clip, cemented an aluminum plate and cemented copper rods bent to attach to the ac vent. i would like to put it on the mirror though. |
Wifes got the good camera with her up in Alaska so it's my crappy cell phone pics, sorry.
Let see if i can clear up how it works. The hook http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=9057 The bracket http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragaug...es/bracket.jpg I slipped the hook into the slot in the bracket, them pushed the epoxy putty in through the hole in the back of the hook to fill the thin slot of the bracket and reduce the gap of the hook to the thickness of the bracket. So I've recreated the section in the yellow box out of the hook, and the bracket slips onto it in the same manor. http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=9073 Then I used the supplied 3m adhesive strip and stuck it to the mirror. I was scrolling through the pages today while driving, it works great, just a light push on the corner and the next page popped up. I'm very happy with this 2nd design. A couple crappy night shot's. Hook, see how I put in the putty (light gray) http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=9081 Bracket installed http://www.astrosafari.com/gallery/i...&image_id=9089 |
