This next guy shows the Arab how's it really done, notice the red hot glowing exhaust.

My first car was not like this one but it was a 1972 corolla, that's where the similarities end.

I wonder how many times those guys in the open buggies get smacked in the head with rocks and other flying debris? None of them even had glasses/goggles on!

Anyone can do a burnout, but this guy makes it interesting. Yes it's a commercial, but I will hazard a guess that he has done this a few times.

Drift economically. Drift diesel.

Better yet, it's a stock motor with simple bolt-ons.

Best bits at 1:34 and 2:30.

I measure mine in gallons per hour. Its easier to figure out how much gas I'm going to use when we know a trail is going to take 2-3 hours.

If you look closely many of the rigs there were propane powered.

War_Wagon 05-31-2012 10:24 AM

Do they use propane as it's pressurized and it avoids issues with the carb float getting knocked around with all that movement going on? Plus some of those rigs sound pretty healthy, I am guessing they like that high octane propane has.

So how many gallons per hour?

It is either injection or something like that propane with the extreme angles. A carb is worthless on those rigs.
My neighbor has a 1.3 liter Samurai that he converted to injection because of the angles he can get into.

TheEnemy 05-31-2012 06:33 PM

Largely because of the extreem angles, the fuel tank will work even upside down where a regular gas burner won't without some creative mods.

My Jeep about 1.6 gallons per hour. The pickup on extreemly easy (by my standards) about 1 gallon per hour.

Edit to add: these are just estimates, I could probably burn in excess of 10 gallons per hour but I'm pretty sure my cooling system couldn't handle that load for long.

Ken Block is still my fav of the bunch... Besides, that Subaru is basically stock, right? At least it still has AWD!

Ken Blocks subie has 500+ hp:D makes me giggle just thinking about using all that power.

niky 06-03-2012 12:54 AM

Ken Block's cars are about as far from stock as you can get and still qualify for whatever racing series he's running them in...

The Fiesta is even worse, since you can't even buy a Fiesta with AWD. (Do you hear me Ford? We want our Fiesta RS AWD!!!)

What is the deal with making the diesels belch smoke? I mean if it was a part of pulling a load tractor pull style, or racing, or pretty much anything other than just sitting in one spot then I could maybe kinda get it. I realize burnout contests are just as cheesy, but at least they are DOING something ha ha. Though the daisy dukes and the 4x4 school bus are both pretty sweet!:snail:

Gealii 07-21-2012 06:55 PM

that place has a special event every night and once a year they have a contest to see what truck can produce the most impressive amount of black smoke the rednecks really get into it

War_Wagon 07-21-2012 07:49 PM

Well I do enjoy some motorsports, so I realize that some people just don't get "it" for certain things. But I would think in that case, since there is no clock or whatever to compete against, the "winner" would be based on crowd response. So, be the last guy in the contest, when everyone is totally trashed and has about a 5 second memory, and you will win. See, easy! I like watching a good rally driver, but I never got the competitiveness of drifting for the same reason. Any motorsport that requires the crowds input to pick a winner just makes me think of monster trucks lol.:snail:

Gealii 07-21-2012 08:06 PM

yea i was trying to build 1 of the more mud based trucks this summer but now since im more into ecomodding i want to either take a 1968-74 ford torino fastback or a 1970-1980 pontiac grand am and mod it in the sense of aero for the quarter mile starting hopefully next summer not eco but its for crowd pleasure that has a point

Ah, that's why DPFs are mandated... so the rest of us can make up for the 'smoke belching' competitions!

What are those big levers in Ken's car? Easy access E-brake?

Also, how does one steer the rear end of these mud crawlers?
