Diesel motorbike - 175 UK MPG
 

Hi all

I have completed my diesel bike build earlier on this year, and I think its something the ecomodders community would like.

It runs on 90% veg oil and has twin tanks, so far I am getting around 150uk mpg, with a higher run netting 175 mpg!

Its a project that I suspect will never end, and I have just started experimenting with different veg oil mixes, seems to be going ok! The engine makes about 9bhp, and has a top speed of 55mph. (enough for a road use!)

I also have an e320 CDI Mercedes, that I managed to get 62.1uk mph out of!

No questions :(

I recently added a dual trip meter (that counts depending on which tank is selected) and had the bike dyno'd (10bhp with 18ftlbs of torque :)

Very cool project! I bet if you aeromod the bike, you could double your MPG and increase your top end speed. If done well, it would also really increase the amount of attention drawn to your project :). Good luck, and keep us informed!

I guess if when its gets to be reliable I will start to look at ways of increasing the mpg. At the moment its running on twin tank Veg oil which costs me 51p a liter so pretty cheap at the end of the day :)

When I was building it, the whole project became a bit rushed at the end so the details are a bit sparse, but im glad to answer any questions about it :)

Cool project! I like it. Can you tell me how about vibrations and the noise?

I was thinking once of building a bike with Daihatsu Charade engine. It's one liter 3 cyl turbodiesel. It's much bigger and heavier than your 1 cyl engine so I would need a stronger frame for it. Imagine Honda Gold Wing Diesel :)

How does this compare to a Robin ?
