The Future

Lex interviews George Hotz again, and interesting conversation ensues.

AI isn't going to physically destroy humanity, only distract us so thoroughly that we no longer reproduce or have anything resembling free will or thought.

I was mocked in another forum for saying that Twitter employees could be cut by 75%, and we'd hardly tell any difference. That would be 2,000 remaining employees.

George says Twitter could be 50 employees at about 2:20

My personality is very similar to his, except of course he's way more intelligent and motivated. He started Comma AI to beat Elon at self-driving.

Interesting take on god. He used to be an atheist by default (his parents were), but he said it's crazy to be a creator while simultaneously denying being part of creation.

The last remaining job will be prompt engineer.

Resilient machines self-replicate. Robots will not be resilient until they can multiply by themselves; something which is trivial for all other life.

I shall watch.

Don't forget his origin story.

10 years ago today, the teen prodigy, George Hotz aka "Geohot", unlocked the first-generation iPhone and even released a tool for it days later. Here's the video of him giving a demonstration of the unlock process. Only a fool would assume his skill set is limited to hacking, he is also the best rapper ever in the history of jailbreaking.
Edit:
Nevermind.

3 hours? That's like 3 Catoonist episodes. Where will I find the time?

But I want to know more about AI Girlfriends™.....

The video you seek is here, skip to about 3:06 to skip the nerd stuff about whatever.

My friend, you need earbuds. That unlocks another level of wasting time consuming ideas. If you don't have other humans requiring things of you frequently, 3 hours is trivial.

I'd gladly trade 10x of the cartoonist for Hotz. The cartoonist is interesting because of random. Hotz is interesting because of focus.

You-know-who has regular white boards; Geohotz asked permission to use his hands to explain something.

I can just turn the volume up and go to the far end of the place.

So you did listen.

He implies contempt for Twitter, which I had the moment the concept was described to me in 2009; coincidently the year (and the travels) that I was introduced to the first iPhone.

Perhaps my favorite Hotz quote from that interview;

"the people who are mocking aren't experts with carefully reasoned arguments about why you need 8,000 people to run a bird app".

Encoded in that is contempt and a notion of superiority; both of which I feel towards the bird app.

I've gotten as far as 1:15:10.

I never 'progressd' further than the iPod Touch. Did everything I wanted it to, but then they added a modem. Disintermediating my desktop machine and all it's security. [I had Symantec's antivirus Knowldgebase at my fingertips during the work day]

It was about that time that I LOL'd at the lemmings deserting MySpace for the sweet, sticky embrace of Facespook.

The small population that he posits will re-establish culture will tilt toward the Amish.

In my opinion, it gets better just after the 2nd hour.

As George Carlin says, imagine how dumb the average person is, and realize half are dumber. Facebook was designed with that philosophy, which is why the sucky stupid platform succeeded. Myspace was superior in every way. We are stuck with an inferior platform because it was tailored to inferior minds.

Never got into iPod, for the reasons I've outlined before; expense, doesn't read .mp3, doesn't present as removable media when plugged into USB, doesn't use USB, doesn't have an FM receiver...

My original iPod Touch was stolen. (while it was playing, in seconds, my attention was elsewhere) It was jailbroken so I could load MP3s.

Some time back I got a used one for $25, but I've forgotten how to jailbreak it. I could look that up and have one less useless thing.

My big accomplishment for today was to fix the right front turn signal on the Metro, and washed the Superbeetle. I've still got the tab open.
