Tim and have been threatening to shut down the site for a couple of years now, considering the years-long trend of declining interest in fuel efficiency and DIY fuel economy mods.

But we felt bad for the 8 people who still visit the forum regularly.

So as a compromise, we've decided instead of going completely dark, we're setting up a WhatsApp account so we can all keep in touch through that. Way better than an old-school forum, right!?

Just kidding!

We're not going anywhere -- because it's time to celebrate EcoModder's final tween birthday by giving away The Customary Birthday Loot!

On Friday, January 17th, we'll draw prizes randomly based on forum posts made between today and then. (So the more you post, the better your odds. Not that our hard-core members need any motivation.)


The Loot:

• ScanGauge II: (again generously provided by Linear Logic) will be awarded at random to one member* who posts in any thread in the forum between 12:01 AM EST today (Dec. 19) and noon EST on Friday, Jan. 17th.

With a lingering global oil production glut (thanks, shale oil!), what are the chances we'll ever experience a big oil price spike again? I wonder how wary oil producers are of creating conditions for high prices that will drive ever more new car buyers into electric vehicles.

Can't believe it's been 12 years already. I think I've been around for about 10 of those years.

As developing countries increase in wealth, they will necessarily consume more oil. We'll probably see prices increase in the future.

My question is, will peak oil happen due to scarcity, or will it happen due to a transition away to alternatives? Any estimates for the year in which we hit peak oil globally?

Exciting to think I may live through the ramp up to peak, and see some of the taper off.

All it takes is a slight shift in the political winds and the cheapest gas in the nation will be over $3.50 a gallon.
States have taken advantage of the cheap gas prices and raised fuel taxes so next time it will be even worse.

It's tought to say really. If youre up here in Canada, our gas price averages $3.95 - $5.00 USD a gallong. Normally around $4.50 a gallon.

Manufacturers will build what sells. But it seems that a lot of people out there dont care about fuel economy. One look down the highway up here and you'll see it dominated with pickups and SUV's.

But I think its gonna take another gas/crude crisis to wake people back up again.

Happy anniversary. Funny to think I'm 7 years in. Time flies.

I have a copy of England's top gear: S12 EP 4 Where the were told to drive 450 miles from Europe to a town in upper England on ONE TANK of gas!!

One Car Called a VW Blue Motion was rated for 75MPG (REALLY) and had a 10 Gal tank...the third car was a standard Jaguar sedan, rated 35MPG...all three cars made it...AND at the end of the show they reported that the Jag had enough gas left to have gone 1000 MILES ON IT ONE TANK OF GAS. Look it up and watch it...

I have been a long time member sense I discovered The 3rd, Gen Camaro.org where they found 85 Camaros could get 35MPH using a setting in the PCM called Lean Burn Mode.

I was able to do that 35MPG in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marques by running it at 16.4A/F ratio...

I am building a special 383 for my 93 Van which will run a TPI intake and a special moded PCM. I hope to get over 20MPH or more...

And I will be trying to get a 2003 Crown Vic to do that 35MPG as well.

This site and the people here sharing thoughts and comments has been a vast source of information and the spark to think about things I would not have bothered to before.

Also, the different view points and how they got there.

And definitely the people not afraid of modding their own vehicles for better efficiency.

EV conversions, aeromods, and driving techniques that I learned about here. Understanding drag coefficient and frontal area and how they relate to aerodynamics.

In other hobbies and industries, I used to read trade magazines and such, but for all the things above and more, I kept up on or learned here.

This is an amazing forum, I appreciate, even if I do not agree with all of them, the posts and opinions that are shared here.

Thanks for keeping this going for so long!

While I haven't posted in sometime, I've continued to enjoy following other people's posts throughout the years. I own two hybrid vehicles, and wasn't as personally invested in making mods as I had been before, when I owned a diesel Ford Excursion, as well as other non hybrid vehicles that could benefit from the many great ideas I've learned here.

I certainly hope that you don't go away, because there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned, even from the older threads! Have a happy holiday and a great New Year, and I look forward to continuing to learn from the members who regularly frequent the site!
