New type of bulk storage battery?

New Battery Material Could Help Wind and Solar Power Go Big

I'd never heard of "flow batteries" before, but they've come up with a new type of storage material that can get the cost of that part of the system down from $80 per kwh to $27 per kwh.

That'll make the grid more amenable to erratic power sources, and make off grid applications take off. I like it.

I thought you were going to mention the article on yahoo that had spheres used with wind to pump water out of the sphere and make power when its windy, then when its not the water flows back in making energy when the wind is calm or demand is higher.
