Xist's sad, sorry soil sifter

As all of you know, I designed a ramp for a lady dying of cancer and Mom insisted that I pulled a tree stump before building the thing that will totally support her weight!
I just did not feel that I could shovel back gravel, cinders, and sterile worthless Arizona regolith, so I looked into making a sifter, but the designs called for far more cuts than I liked. I can't be cutting all kinds of boards!

I bought a 2-drawer wooden filing cabinet from Goodwill for $10, and aluminum window screen, 1/4" garden screen, and some 1x2s. I cut off the top of the top drawer--terribly, I couldn't find my jigsaw, so I used my sawzall, I tightened all of the fasteners, accepted that it would always be loose, removed the bottoms, and screwed in screens:

I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those pesky kids!

I think that it would have worked had I used 1/2" and 1/4" screens, but I wasn't redoing it!

Eventually the rain will cause the dirt to settle, right?

Right?!

Would it work better if you turned it upright?

I have plastic crates lined with 1/4 and 1/2 inch screens that I used to wash and sort gravel.

I read about milk crates when I was mostly finished. I thought that the holes would be too big, but mentioned lining one with screens to Mom.

I passed Walmart yesterday on my way home from seeing clients, but I couldn't remember what I wanted to buy until I passed it.

I just remembered that I had wanted to buy the biggest cheap colander and try it out, but could I even fit a good shovel full at a time?

Had I bought the milk crate I might have run to Home Depot for 1/2" screen.

I also thought about frying pan screens that Dollar Tree sells. You definitely couldn't fit a shovel full on one, but it sounds pretty good for a dollar.

Maybe Dollar Tree has some baskets that would work.

That's exactly why I procrastinate so much!

I would rather feel frustrated that I am bad at everything than because I wasted my day.
