EV 1 resurrection?

And EV 2 on the way...
GM's EV1 Lives On, With EV2 on the Way | PluginCars.com

The EV1 is an epic example of GM's myopic short-sightedness in the extreme!

meh...

The Volt itself was actually aimed to be an EV2, just got the range-extender setup with a smaller batteries bank because it's still perceived as more convenient for the average Joe. Well, we might remember that the original Volt concept-car featured in the 2007 Detroit Auto Show was actually all-electric, altough assembled with a golf-cart motor just for the show :D

We should lean into Honda to make a G1 insight as a EREV.

It would be better than whatever coolaid they seem to market now.

A 400 mile range is totally doable - though the EV1 had a Cd of ~0.20 while the Insight is 0.25. That will come down a little with a full grill block, but it won't likely equal the EV1. Range is largely dependent on the Cd of the car.

So, the Wayland EV2 project would be better off using an EV1 chassis, which has 20% lower drag Cd than the Insight. And the Tesla Model S has a better Cd than the Insight, so with a similar capacity battery pack, the only advantage the EV2 has over the Model S is a smaller frontal area and lower weight.

Well, in spite of the higher Cd, the Spark EV might become some sort of spiritual sucessor of the EV1...

Im really looking forward to driving the Spark EV. It does seem to be what GM had in mind with the EV1. Should be a pretty inexpensive commuter for the wife and I if it is built well enough to be reliable for the 6-8 years that we would plan on owning it.

I think a truly mass produced EV will make the prospect of going electric more attractive for other manufacturers. A true 400 mile range would mean that it could replace just about everybodys current ride. The estimated 85 mile range on the Spark EV will make trip planning vital and sometimes inconvenient. that Insight would be amazing if anybody could mass produce it!

Close to the template, but not as close as others. Perhaps 3D wise it was better.

I drove an Impact/EV-1 around the block once, it was awesome.

The template is definitely just 2D - the image of the EV1 you used looks to be slightly askew (looking down) which makes it look worse. And the Cd's don't lie: the Insight is 0.25 and the EV1 is ~0.20. The *sides* of both cars are tapered and this can reduce the drag by as much as 40%. Maybe the EV1 does this and other things better?

Also, the EV1 is an EV (no duh!) and this means it's cooling system drag is possibly only 10-20% as high as the Insight.
