EV Credit Extension Bill ends credit in 2024?
This bill discussed below early in the year
https://priuschat.com/threads/legisl...3#post-2979115 Is now garnering the bipartisan support to pass. https://www.google.com/amp/s/insidee...explained/amp/ It extends the credit to 600,000 units per manufacturer But sets the sunset in 2024 Not sure how I feel about this but in general I think we need a much longer period to get out of the early adopter phase and much more focus on usable tax rebates on cheaper plug ins / taylored so lower income folks can actually use the credit. My fear is regionally there will be large divides as the rural areas tax the few EVs that are there without any effective means of getting them on the road in the first place. Ah well, I think this is the end to the credit Ideas? |
It wasn't supposed to last forever and I'm surprised it went on this long.

It took this long because adopting a new transport tech is slow and can take 30 years or more. I think many are exaggerating the pace of adoption to fit narratives (both for and against) What we end up with post credit is likely the same as what we have now It will be 2 states with significant levels of plug ins (2-3%) and 48 states with infinitesimally small numbers and zero growth. How we get growth above 1% outside California I do not know but what we have done so far hasn’t worked, States like Wisconsin are unlikely to see 1% in 30 years unless something dramatic changes. Even progressive folks like me aren’t buying additional BEVs due to the $665 1st year title + registration. I’m back to my gas Honda from mostly electric, my car plans in the future involve simplifying and nesting into obsolete tax exempt vehicles , and I’m not the only one. On a state level I think we are moving backwards already. |
As has been by otherx most of these credits only work for the rich. Give the rich favors, they give you donations.

$64,000 is the cost of admission to a full credit for someone without significant deductions for rent/ ??? Spanning the credit multiple years would solve or dumping it against the loan (which is sort of how the credit worked for a lease) Sadly making it more effective is off the table now. EV adoption is likely over for flyover country anyway. The Volt was much more popular in cold rural areas than any BEV, With its discontinuation there are very few viable options left for rural single car households. |
Why should we be expecting the government to get a particular technology to be "successful"? Why is that within the purview of the federal government? Profound ignorance at best, corruption at worst.

But potentially millions of “rich” $64,000 a year folks get a $7500 a car payoff due to the bill in the republican senate? Why should a doctors derelict rice farm he uses for hunting land get him an annual $50,000 government payoff while a small dairy farm pays tax penalties ? Since the payoff is guaranteed anyway shouldn’t it be used for its intended purpose, instead of in a completely ineffective way in an area that won’t use or need it? |
Increasing the 200,000 cap on EV tax credits didn't make it into the omnibus bill.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/electre...ax-credit/amp/ Last I read it kept going back because biodiesel and farm stuff wasn’t addressed, cursory reading is supposed to be tomorrow if further negotiations don’t set in. https://www.eenews.net/stories/1061822795 I haven’t found the full 2300 page text, release was late, and mostly focused on the remove NAFTA agreement https://www.google.com/amp/s/slate.c...l-released.amp A bit of a stinker isn’t it https://rules.house.gov/sites/democr...-RCP116-43.PDF $1 per gallon incentive for bio diesel, hmm, probably find more goodies in there. |
I'm in fly over country and I make it with with none other than a 24kwh leaf and associated pathetic range.
