EV Toyota Yaris. What can I do?
 

Aloha, all. I am impressed with a the work some of you have put in to streamline and get great mileage. I have a Yaris that is fully electric and want to customize it to present a very pleasing custom/yet/effecient car. I really need it to look attractive, so I need to style it to make it pleasing to the general public and sacrifice some aero. Can you comment on what I propose below...... I know some of the changes i would like to make. Please estimate what gain or loss I would get by doing the things below on the Yaris.

1: installing moon hubcaps

2: Installing 17" mags with say 215x45x17 tires

3: Installing 17" narrower mags with 194x55x17 tires

4: Lowering by 1.5"

5: installing rear spoiler (on roof of the 3 door hatchback Yaris) that makes downforce

6: installing rear spoiler (on roof that does not create downforce, but deflects air downward a bit)

7: installing larger custom front dam

8: going underneath and installing smoothing panels (since it is an EV there is no exhaust, so tunnels can be covered

9: What to do with the leading edge of wheels? Install a wedge to divide the air instead of air mashing into the flat of the tire?

10: installing smaller side mirrors and installing rear camera

11: Installing rubber flaps to cover the windshield wiper "tunnel".

12: Anything else?

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you already have a great start with an EV. Since you don't need that air coming in anymore, or at least not as much, I'd say you should block off your grill, for starters. Easy and simple to do. From there, I would have to say stay away from a down-force creating spoiler. It doesn't help FE, and it actually useless on an FWD car, since it would actually lift the front wheels. An air dam with belly pan is a good idea too, as are the smaller mirrors and covering the windshield wiper channel.

Can we get more pictures of the Yaris? Maybe some of the conversion?

Does the car go fast enough that aerodynamics comes into it?
I'd suggest not increasing the wheel width for a start, rather try the narrowest tyres that will fit.

You post count isn't high enough to post links yet. That really does look like a good little car. Must have been a hassle to get from Utah to HI. I've been to Hawaii twice, once for my dads wedding (re-married after divorce). Loved Honolulu, Kauai is too relaxed for me.

The range doesn't sound too impressive from the ad. Are you planning on getting new batteries?

It was easy to get it from Utah. Found a GREAT car transporter to take it to Long Beach and he also gave me their wholesale price on shipping to Hawaii. $1550.00 I have been playing around with it and get 11 miles out of it. I just bought some lithium batteries and calculate to get a range of 90 miles. Car is basically NEW @ 8484 miles and not a scratch on it. The electrical components (except batteries) are top of the line. I am looking for a good mix of eco-miler with custom body/appearance maybe something like this? (Trying to mix the two). And going for a custom paint/wrap graphics too to show it is Electric)

I understand where you're coming from. There are some aesthetic things I want to do to my Vibe along with my ecomodding. A good things about body kits is that they make the car more aerodynamic, but you'd have to cover the grill if there is a gaping hole in the front bumper.

If you smooth the underside completely, then the chin spoiler is moot.

An upper grill block and a gasket seal fro the hood are key. The lower grill can be blocked as well, if you no longer have A/C and if you need no cooling air for the under hood area. The indents where the fog lights would be can also be covered.

A rear Kamm back, or partial Kamm back would be very important.

If you do smooth wheel covers, then there is no need for alloy wheels. Rear wheel skirts would be a big improvement.

On an EV, you might see improvements with light bulb replacements: the headlights could be HID or LED. All the marker lights could be LED.

(the constant hills are tough on the batteries though)
