evap

Data on disconnecting a evap is instant+ 5 mpg

euromodder 05-18-2012 12:26 PM

Could you give a bit more info on that ?

ramman360 05-18-2012 12:35 PM

I disconnected the vacume line at the throttle body less vacume draw is letting my engine not work as hard is what I think is causing the increase in mpg

Daox 05-18-2012 12:58 PM

You're going to have to give a lot more info than that. :) Especially considering what the evap system does (traps and burns gas vapors). What you're saying really doesn't make sense.

Gealii 05-18-2012 01:26 PM

or it could make your car run even worse i have a small hole in 1 evap line that makes it start really rough cant imagine the entire line being gone

ecomodded 05-18-2012 03:50 PM

hmm it might of been the vacuum advance line he disconnected.. making the car run slower / lower rpm.

jakobnev 05-18-2012 04:11 PM

How did you measure that if you caused a vacuum leak the AFM will see less airflow and some types of instrumentation can be fooled into thinking your car is using less fuel when it isn't also punctuation is your friend

2000mc 05-18-2012 05:45 PM

happen to disconnect the vacuum line about the same time you started driving like you cared about mileage?

ramman360 05-18-2012 08:08 PM

I disconnected it and ABA tested it if you don't believe me then you all can go to help because I'm tired of everybody being an expert and an asshole to me next up is if you want the government that dissent have your best unrest at heart then leave it on. Next my truck didn't get a vac advance distribute and evap came out it the 80 s so guess everyone's car tan bad then didn't it

None of us are trying to be jerks, Ramman. If you've been here any length of time you'd understand why the skepticism is worth while for us. You can't simply come here and say 'hey everyone, disconnect your evap system to gain 5 mpg' and have everyone just say 'okay brand new guy we don't even know, I'll go do that right now just because you said so'. If that were what we do, everyone here would be adding acetone to our gas, with a pill in our gas tank, and boiling water with hydrogen generators, and everyone would probably be getting worse mileage than their stock vehicles. We take the time to PROVE our modifications here, we don't take anyone's word for it. Even (actually especially) the veteran members here understand the value of testing new modifications and wouldn't make claims without information to back them up. Testing proves what works or not.

If you disconnected your evap system and it worked for you there probably is a reason (creating an unmetered vacuum leak for instance), but that may have more effects than you are aware of. There is a reason the evap system is on a vehicle, and its certainly not to reduce your mileage.

If you have done testing post the info. This is what we ask of everyone.
