Fast warm up ideas: diesel fired air heater.

I got one of these.
https://ecomodder.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1604273950 It's a "5kw diesel air heater" they come in one's that look like this up to 8kw. Normally I say bigger is better but I went with the 5kw one because it can put out as little as 2kw of heat. Looking at the 8kw heater I think you could only turn the heat down as low as 4kw. I just don't think I need to burn a tank of diesel at 13,000btu per hour. I would rather have more run time on a tank then heat output. I'm thinking set it on top of the car, rolling down a window and running the heat in with a clothes dryer duct and that will melt all the ice off my leaf. |
Did you buy it for this purpose?
Would an electric heater have not sufficed? Or is there no power at one of your stops? |
When I leave from work in the morning after working all night there is no electricity where I park.
Oh and I think 5kw will be plenty to thaw out a car. Even the lowest setting should do fine on all but the coldest single digit mornings. Or if I need to deice the car at home. When it gets down into the teens a single 1kw space heater doesn't do squat. So leaving a space heater in it over night just wastes that much electricity. |
The picture is small, but it almost looks like it needs electricity.

12-volt.
|
Yeah it takes 12v.

I'd take a look at the Webasto stuff before.
