FI-Cleaner... Waste of $ or not?
 

My car is near 60K miles.
Are the bottles of Fuel Injector cleaner any good?
I've heard with all the cleaners added to gas they are unnecessary.
Of course the manufacturers say it's a good idea:D
Any brand better than another?

I haven't noticed any significant increase in mileage when I use it. However, I do it every 6,000 miles or so in conjunction with cleaning the throttle body. Though I do notice smoother idling and acceleration in my car (~195,5xx miles).

I just use as necessary, like if mpg starts dropping or rough running or getting some codes, maybe a bottle every couple years even on cheap gas. No fixed schedule though, YMMV.

I don't believe in fuel additives myself. Of course, I run Shell Premium in my ride.

I've used them a couple of times. When there was no problem to start with, I couldn't notice a differnce. But once my dad's car bogged down with the throttle opening past 45% or something. I used something this time and it fixed the problem.

I have heard good stuff about Sea Foam, but again if your car isn't having any idle/fuel injection problems to start with I'd think twice before adding additives to my car.

Waste of $$$$$$$$
 

I use seafoam every 10,000 miles. I do get better mpg on that tank and I have yet to have any injector fouling. I run the cheapest gasoline I can find.

I've had Sea Foam work on sticky lifters. IMHO it would clean injectors as well.

I don't use injector cleaner on any specific intervals, but I do put some in I guess about every 5,000-10,000 miles in my daily driver just for preventive maintenance and have never had any injector problems other than having to replace an O ring in one once. The injector cleaner I usually use is CD-2 concentrated cleaner and you only add 1 oz per tank for tanks I think up to 15 gallons. Sometimes I will notice a little increase in mileage and sometimes I don't. My '97 Escort is basically driven on longer trips 500+ miles so sometimes the gas sits in it for a few months, so I try to always add injector cleaner to it prior to driving it on a trip.

cleaning your injectors is good to do every once in a while. It won't give you significant gains in MPG but it will help even the flow of fuel to the engine. Injectors spray a super fine mist of fuel which means that opening could get clogged quiet easily if your not keeping up with your fuel filter or basically not maintaining your car. The stuff works but don't use it all the time, that's just throwing money away
