Finally a good starting point (EG Civic ecomod journey
 
Hi guys,

After my wagon got defected (declared unroadworthy by the police) within only a month of getting it back on the road i started looking for a new car, and the obvious choice was always an EG civic, not only is is a much more economical car but its also as lot more fun to drive and has nearly unlimited aftermarket parts availability

Wanted one for many years was the final nail in the coffin, i ended up looking at a couple before picking this up for a measly $1750

It is a bit ricey but pretty straight and seems to have been well looked after, its pretty clean inside and out and runs and drives well

Within a week of buying it the crappy cheap store battery died so i moved my plans for a relocation forward quite a lot and put an Optima in the boot

It is way overkill for this car but i had it laying around, i will probably switch to a much smaller lighter one later

During the swap i removed a few defunct bits (like the battery tray in the engine bay) and also took out the spare tire and associated tools from the boot to make way for the new battery, i havnt weighed it yet but i think the swap would have dropped at least 10kgs (every bit counts right?)

A few days after getting the car my freind informed me of a DC4 teg at the local wreckers so i went and picked up all of the lower control arms, swaybars, brakes and hubs, which should provide a decent stopping upgrade as well as allowing me to hold higher corner speed with the upgraded swaybars

Thats about all for now, first tank i didnt pay any attention to driving economically (ok i thashed it a bit lol) and got just under 33mpg, so plenty of room to improve!

Thanks guys, i got a great deal on it, seems to have been well looked after and its pretty clean inside and out

Its got a D15B4 twin carby motor in it currently, which makes instrumentation difficult, i might take the vacuum gauge off my F100 and put it on until i have the time/money for an EFI swap, i would love to put a big motor in it like a K20 or H22 for the extra torque but this one runs nice so there is no rush

First steps are to make it as standard looking as possible, i dont want any attention from the police or anyone else. Ive already taken the massive cannon off, it sounded terrible and made a headache inducing drone at most of the common speeds i travel. Next step is to get a stock muffler for it, then swap the black hood back to a white one (or paint it). I also want to get some steel wheels with smooth hubcaps (both for efficiency and stealthiness) when these tyres wear out, i will swap to 15" when that happens to give extra clearance for the Integra brakes

Some stealthy aero mods and more weight loss are also on the cards, a grill block, belly pan, and small kammback are all possibilities, as well as smaller lighter side mirrors and a general cleaning up of the typical 20y/o japanese panel gaps.

On the inside im on the way to fitting a decent but lightweight stereo (i love my music), as well as designing a storage system for my tools and stuff in the boot

Sorry about the epic long post, i get a bit carried away with a new car to play with haha!

Been having way too much fun blasting through the hills in this so i still havnt taken too much consideration for hypermiling, although on my last fill up my mileage went up a bit to 35mpg due to a bit of DWL on the way to work as well as a couple of long EOCs on the way home

Wow pgfpro, your sons car was nice! pity someone else thought it would be nicer in their driveway :(

i put the aero template on it last night out of curiosity and it follows the roofline from the top of the windscreen all the way to the end of the spoiler perfectly, no wonder it coasts so much better than all of my other cars

I want to build a small kammback and do a grill block to improve the coasts even more, but i dont want it to look like a racecar to avoid attention. So no big drag style airdams or wings

How much of a kammback do you need to make a noticable difference? will adding 3 or 4" to the stock spoiler in line with the template help at all?

Has anyone done a front bellypan vs front lip comparo on these? would i be better off with the stock bumper and a belly pan, a small lip, or a combo of both?

I never seen an EG with a carburettor-fed engine. Was it stock or just a workaround?

Really? its stock, the majority of them in aus have carby motors, the early model Breeze has a 1.3L single carb, and the GL and GLi have 1.5L twin carb, then the Si and VTi got injected motors, the later ones (95-96) might be efi im not sure

Another PB with todays fill, i thrashed it a bit for the first half of the tank but started using lots of EOC and DWL in the second half and managed to bring it up over 38mpg :)

This next tank im going to try hypermiling the whole lot and see if i can break into the 40s on my mix of hilly country driving to work and city on weekends
