Finally removed some packing tape (Corolla partial grille block)
and put on the painted coroplast for my lower grill blocks.
http://spidermouse.us/modding/Car/Co...er-Block-1.jpg http://spidermouse.us/modding/Car/Co...er-Block-2.jpg I was going to put this in my previous build thread from well over a year ago, but I can't find it. (can't even think of what it was called and search didn't help much) I'll just update this one later once I get the last bits done on the upper grill block (the rest of the packing tape ;P ) They're not quite flush with the bumper cover on the outside edges, but I figure some epoxy/glue should fix that once I have time again. Anyway, at least that part doesn't look like it's holding the car together anymore (got questioned about it getting the car inspected in April). My wife thought it was too "ghetto", so hopefully she'll like this better. |

Ok, I finally found my old thread: Skeeter's New Mods.
And I also found a pic I took of the work done so far on the upper grill block: http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1258582936 Doesn't look like spilled Tauntaun guts anymore  Now I just need to fill the holes, sand smooth, fiberglass, sand, and paint. And make sure I don't need to find more attachment points. |
OT: weird, but that's twice in 2 days I've seen Tauntaun references on the web since I last saw the movie...

OK, so just over 2 years since I last made progress on this, but it's done! It was rather convenient that I moved to house with a proper driveway, basement, and yard to get everything done in.
We left off when the grill block was just foam in a cheap replacement ricer-style grill. Here it is with a coat of bondo to fill in the gaps: http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1328376292 And here it is with a few layers of fiberglass: http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1328376292 Now, sanded and painted and sanded and painted. Still not perfect but it's close enough for rock and roll. http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1328376294 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1328376294 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1328376294 The main reason I didn't touch this project for so long was that for the last couple years (since I moved) I haven't had to drive. I got a job where I took the train and rode my bike the rest of the way. Now, starting Monday, I will be commuting by car again and I want it to be all set and done. I did have to remove my MPGuino a few months ago because the splices where it was wired to the car's computer were not sealed properly and were rusting away causing all kinds of problems. In a month or so I'm going to go the Torq app route with a bluetooth ODBII device. Now to check out the rest of the forum to see what I've missed :D |
