At Least 16 Fisker Karmas Drown, Catch Fire at New Jersey Port | Autopia | Wired.com

Sad, but it has been rough since the beginning. :/

Zeppelins had hydrogen-fires, Fiskers (and Volts) have water-fires!

Ryland 11-01-2012 02:11 AM

Why didn't all of them catch fire? did this have anything to do with the fuel people say was mixed with the flood water?

niky 11-01-2012 03:15 AM

It's an unusual situation. Salt water immersion not only shorts circuits, it corrodes contacts and destroys rubber insulation that prevents these shorts. Only one car needed to catch fire to start a conflagration, though. It's likely not all of them shorted.

Of course, this doesn't help Fisker any.

Water and lithium don't go well together.

Daox 11-01-2012 11:36 AM

I highly doubt that lithium was the cause of this. Those cells are very well sealed I'm sure. In fact, I believe the whole manufacturing process is done in a vacuum.

It really is too bad for Fisker though. They got a really cool product, but just too many problems.

Oddly enough, that was in New Jersey as well. Strange....

Oh the humanity!

Well, let that be a lesson to you: Do not buy a FIsker Karma if you expect to immerse it in salt water. Buy a submarine instead.
