forced air intake by fog light holes?

i want to test on my 2005 toyota echo a forced air intake using Flexible Aluminum Ducting to take air in the front of my car by the fog light holes that act like a funnel. but before the test i want to know if it is likely to helps the MPGs or it will do nothing?

If, by chance you can get an increase in pressure, then forcing more air in to the engine will have the affect of increasing the amount of gasoline that is needed as well, otherwise the throttle plate will have to close further, creating turbulence inside of the intake making the engine work harder.
It all depends on what your goal is and if the fraction of a psi of pressure you could get, less then 1/10th of a PSI, is worth the extra ducting that you would have to install

do you have problems with road dust or snow (if you ever driven in it :D )
and y know its not tested but do you think in was good or bad for the MPGs

mcrews 01-17-2012 09:31 PM

No snow.....no problem!!!!!
I'm a mpg nut.
I'm all about getting good mpg on the road. cant do much about city driving.
my gut feeling is that it helps.
Remember I have all the stock stuff in place.
I did but a small hole in the bottom of the elbow so IF any water got in there in just drains out.

rember the hole in the bottom of the airbox is in front of the air filter.
Can't say it gets more or less dirty, I have (all my life) cleaned out my air filter when ever I clean the engine compartment. which is about once a month.
I went thru a sand storm in southern az in august.....man does the sand build up in the air box!

frank lee,

are you making fun of me???????

Frank Lee 01-17-2012 11:16 PM

Not at all!!!

I simply love it when people repeatedly quote pics such that I can go in the kitchen, prepare a sandwich, and come back to the computer and the page hasn't even loaded yet. People, if it isn't vital to your reply, can you omit quoting pics? Thank you velly much.

(if you would feed the squirrel more that 1 nut a day, he might have the energy to keep the wheel going........
i'm just sayin!!!)
