Ford Maverick hybrid pickup starts at $20,000

That seems to be a pretty good deal. I wonder where the AWD price starts. I'd also like to see a side by side of capabilities next to a Ridgeline. I don't think you can get anywhere near a new Ridgeline for $20,000. Not to mention a Ridgeline doesn't get anywhere near 40 mpg city.

I guess the Awd is $24795 but it is not available as a hybrid. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...ow-to-reserve/

I'm pretty amazed by this truck. Ford will sell a bunch of them. It is a good size while still having a useful bed. (Overall length is about a foot shorter than the Ranger)

I was expecting the Maverick to come in about $22K for a base model with steel wheels, vinyl seats, and the 1.5T 3 cylinder. I expected the hybrid to be the most expensive engine like it is for the Escape and be priced near $30K.

A 37 mpg combined hybrid truck for $21,490 is pretty amazing. ($19,995 + $1,495 destination) The only thing the base truck is missing for me is cruise control. Even the top Lariat trim starts at only $26,985

I guess I was expecting prices much closer to the Escape. ($26,800 for the S to $35,490 for the Hybrid Titanium)

I am disappointed that an AWD hybrid is not available at launch. Hopefully they will add that option soon. The RAV4 hybrid just got some competition for my next vehicle.

A bed cover would probably boost that MPG even more, huh?

Mine would likely get a canopy / shell / topper. Lockable storage is a requirement for me.

I think I heard somebody claim it will be the least expensive new hybrid you can buy in the US.

At least they give it a 2000 pound tow rating on the hybrid. And with 3/4 ton payload you could load it up pretty well.

redpoint5 06-09-2021 11:03 AM

Amazing if it truly is the least expensive hybrid, as it would represent both the most affordable and highest yielding hybrid.

The industry should have started hybrid technology in trucks because they'd have been making a killing by now. They shot themselves in the foot marketing hybrid technology as fuel saving environmental equipment rather than marketing it as performance enhancement with a side benefit of not having to refuel as much.

The boys could be bragging "how much did you spend filling your slow rig"?

Wonder when they will actually start selling it? I'd get one right now
I got rid of my boat last year and now I only have a lawn trailer and a kayak trailer so my Chevy 3500 is more truck than I need.
My new commute (when I'm not working from home) is 51 miles each way and my Volt only gets about 35 mpg doing that trip, this truck would come pretty close to that
I could replace both the Volt and the 3500 with this smaller truck and still be able to tow all my trailers and do the 500 mile weekly commute on a tank of gas

I believe the cheapest hybrid on sale today in the USA is the Elantra Hybrid that starts at $23,550 MSRP +$1,005 Freight = $24,555. It JUST sneaks under the Toyota Corolla Hybrid: $23,600 + $990 freight = $24,595
