Ford: new direction for the future.

So Ford have announced their new business plan for the future. Less emphasis on cars and more on SUVs and trucks. Wonder if Ford Europe will make the same shift. A hybrid F-150 and Mustang. A big focus on Autonomous cars and woe upon woe, the new North American Focus to be built in China. Wonder what Mr Trump will make of that?

They said that before, at least twice that I can think of.
When ford says something mental like "we are going to move away from highly profitable trucks and SUVs to something that makes less money" the share holders will straighten them out.

They have actually said they will do the opposite. They are intending to build more SUVs and trucks. Not less.

Of course they could always try making profitable cars. Honda, Subaru, Mazda, Hyundai... all of them seem to be profitable companies, yet don't make trucks*, at least for the American market.

*I don't consider the Ridgeline to be a truck. It's a large sedan with the trunk lid missing.

The Ridgeline is not available in Europe.
Here in the UK we can get the Mitsubishi L200, Fiat Fullback, Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok, Isuzu D-Max and the SsangYong Musso.

To rephrase Oilpan, this is the third time they have said they are focusing on the larger vehicles, which carry a larger profit margins.

I do not know why some companies seem to neglect certain areas, just that some manufacturers do better in certain niches than others.

ford makes better 4wd/rwd vehicles than most of their fwd vehicles IMHO ;)

I'm quite fond of Ford fwds. In fact I just picked up an old Rustiva to play with.

F150 has been Duhmerica's top selling vehicle for generations so yeah, they have to capitalize on their strong suits.
