Forum & server upgrade - keep an eye out for errors
 

We did a number of upgrades to the server hardware & software this morning that will speed up the site. We also switched over to https for better security.



Everything went relatively smoothly and all seems to be in order. But keep an eye out for errors anyway -- we always find some after the fact.



Let us know here if you spot any.

Took longer than we thought it would, but we're back!!

Found one: the Google-powered search box on the top of each page is borked. But the Advanced search (vB Forum-powered) link beneath it still works.


Added to the list. I know what the issue is.

I see that my most recent logon(s?) are not reflected in what I see for Recent Posts. No biggie - just good to know why it is happening.

It fixed a problem where images here would not embed in other forums. I'm guessing the other forums required SSL to display images.

The Recent posts / Pics link is buggy, at least the Pics part.
It shows bugs.
It has done that for at least a year or so. Always the same buggies.

Not related to these changes, and no biggie (rather a buggie) but ... I'd love to see this work and show really recent pics...

User CP shows me all recent threads instead of just those with new posts since I last signed in.

Another problem: wiki is borked.

Anybody noticed the much snappier load times? Our server admin guru says it's 2x+ faster.

Yes, it is much quicker, now.

Ha - you double confused it: you wrapped the video URL in an IMG tag!

Yup, so the plug-in is clearly still busted. But I think it was your IMG tag around it that messed up the post formatting.

Doh! I noticed the IMG tags and thought I had removed them by pasting over the text. Then it duplicated some portion of my post. Anyhow, I just removed the link altogether since there was an F bomb and it wasn't an objective video.

Opening the forum index can take a good 10+ seconds the first time or if it's been a few minutes since opening. Opening the subforums and threads is as quick as you'd expect. This happened before, nearly every time I accessed the forums late at night (10p-1a mountain time), but it also happened just now (11am). I haven't noticed any other sites doing this, so I don't think it's my internet.

Yeah, I see the same 'sign-on' delay followed by fast access.

Also, many (too many) of the GREEN "unread" E's have remained the same and not cleared even though I've gone into every highlighted post within their folder.

The recent posts listed are now better, but all the thread titles are highlighted, including the threads that I have already read.

It may just be me/my phone, but the "home" page takes forever to load. Navigating past it is faster than it used to be, however.

Yup, even on my network it takes 22 seconds to execute index.php for that page, and there are some failed scripts (cron.php).

Re load times...


Just to clarify, are you talking about the forum index (ecomodder.com/forum/) or the home page index (ecomodder.com/) ?


I've seen the forum index loading very slowly. The server admin was already aware of it. He's been doing special logging for slow load times but hasn't solved it yet.

Both the Home and Forum links (as shown on the top of this page) are slow when clicked first time. All the others are fine.

I was meaning the forum index, but now that I check, the home page is also slow. The rest of the site (blog, garage, etc) is quick.

No update yet from the server admin on the slow index pages.



I fixed the Google search widget though.

I get broken image links when replying to anything.

Yep, I'm messing around with image paths at the moment ... and I busted a few. :P

Simple one you probably already know about, the logo in the top left of the wikis is wrong.

I too am getting the slow index loading times, rest of the site seems fine.

Yup, thanks. A bunch of images are missing from the wiki. That's this afternoon's project actually.

Server admin says he's been swamped because so many people are on holidays this week, but will look at the index load time problem this weekend or first thing next week.

Well, whatever he/she did...it seems to have worked! Fast loading now (for me).

Not for me, Home takes 22 seconds to load and Forum about 15.

Well, that's our first major hiccup: the forum was down for what looks like most of this afternoon.

Of course it would happen on a Sunday afternoon when I haven't been online at all.

Server admin is looking into it at the moment.

Just was able to open Ecomodder for the first time today.

But - the slow loading seems to be gone. 'Home' was slow once, but not after, even on forced reload. 'Forum' was fast first time out.

Still slow for me.


I'll be bugging the server admin today.

I restarted my laptop for a Windows update and tried again - all fast first time out, less than half a second to completion.

Identified the query causing the delay on the home page. Temporarily disabled, it's loading super quick now.



Working on /forum/index.php next.
