My Motor Hunting Thread
Ok!! WhooHoo! I found one!
:turtle: Now grace me with your intelligence and experience to tell me if it's right for what I'm wanting to do. (I know I'm a moron in this field) Craig's List Add Date: 2007-12-24, 9:12PM MST Need to sell forklift... ASAP Propane runs great 8875#, http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/1...0620071vf6.jpghttp://img115.imageshack.us/img115/4...1220071dq7.jpg We already made e-mail contact, i call him tomorrow and from there we touch on price range. I hope it's not too much, because it does still have to pass the wife test. She has no objection to the forklift so long as i go through with the project. but the price may be a different story. He says it runs so i should be able to drive it home on the back roads. I'll be looking to put a motor into a pickup truck. It must be able to go 80 miles @ 55mph before it needs a recharge. Alright, so give me some feedback. good find or bad find for target plan? |
Looks like it's a ICE (propane) motor, not 'lectric.
|
I was thinking of the pump motors to run the hydrolics.
No luck? :( :( :( |
those might run of the ICE too. I guess you'd have to go get a closer look.
|
Hmmm - could just convert it to be a propane car - that would still be alternative transportation!
Then you would just have to make your own methane to be completely renewable!! |
I did consider that at one time, but i am not fond of handling cow poo.... or my own. :D
An AC current motor i was looking at would defenently be big enough but there isn't enough web info for me to confidently convert a car to an AC Motor, so i dropped it. I'll call up the guy about the forklift tomorrow, but i get the feeling it will be a big waste of time. Craig's list has so far given me duds but tomorrow or Friday I will go down to a forklift salvage yard someone told me about and see if that works out. So far the only motor i found that i would kill for on EBay has been one big enough to run a tank - bidding started at $500 EBAY Motor Another one on EBay is 30HP and starts at only 99cents (this one really is big enough to run a tank) but shipping alone would cost $550 SUPER BIG DC MOTOR It's getting discouraging to repeat the other members budget successes. |
that is a pure propane forklift, we use a verry simaler sized one at work that is no where near that pretty, I think my boss paid $4,000 for it, they work well, run forever and the engine is extreamly heavy cast iron, because why would you want to save weight on an engine when you are adding 2,000 pounds more cast iron as a ballest weight.
Waxy, if it has a propane tank behind the seat then it's a propane forklift, electric forklifts are normal slightly smaller and used indoors only, they might be labled as a warehouse forklift, or indoor, and they are most likely going to say something about the condition of the battery pack. |

Here's another ebay auction to consider, or at least shoot them a question about.
It looks to be a Hydraulic motor from a Crown lift of some sort. The big 36V Crown Forklifts in most warehouses would have big enough hydraulic motors to possibly EV with. If I were you I'd email them and ask them what it's dimensions are. It's not exactly cheap at $250, but if it doesn't sell you can always shoot them a lower offer. |
Ryland - first post, damn. i was afraid of that, no elec motors in it - or atleast non e of a good enough size. Second post - link #'s 1 and 3 are too expensive (wife test). #2 i e-mailed them and they never responded.
Andrew - that's a good idea. i'll sit back and watch what happens to that one. :D Thanks for the cheer-up guys. |
