:turtle::turtle::turtle::turtle::turtle: from me.

ramblindoug 12-19-2007 09:14 AM

This is a good movie. Really interesting to watch.

Peakster 12-19-2007 02:19 PM

This was the first time I've watched this film. Man alive, I can't believe how close EVs came to mass production! Just wait my friends... someone, somewhere will start making EVs again, and make a name for themselves in the process.

SVOboy 12-19-2007 04:47 PM

It is a rather good movie, I feel lucky I found this link, :)

igo 12-19-2007 09:25 PM

I saw it for the first time two weeks ago. Its soooo stupid that GM didn't let the lease holders buy them when they decided to discontinue the ev1.

RH77 12-19-2007 10:18 PM

Thanks Ben

First, a heartfelt thanks to Ben for the link! :turtle:

Second, I'm speechless. You know why. <- Sums it up.

Third, let's keep moving in the right direction.

I fear it wasn't stupidity at all. It was more likely devious, spineless and self destructive conspiracy maybe, but not entirely stupid actions by the knuckleheads in the ivory tower. GM has a history of doing unethical things for their own short-term gain (promoting the lacing of gasoline with lead, killing of streetcars, killing EVs, etc.).

Just like when they formed the "grassroots" organization that killed the CA ZEV mandate, the oil companies haven't exactly been siting on their hands. GM has always taken hints (and probably "contributions") from the strategists at the oil companies.

I would have liked to see all of the evs end up in the hands of the public. btw my son bought me a dvd of this movie when i started getting "insane dad, your just insane" last year for my birthday.

bennelson 01-09-2008 12:58 AM

So would "Who Saved the Electric Car" be a sequel?

I gotta say that the people saving the electric car are hobbyists, homebuilders, and anyone who takes their EV to a car show, takes people for a ride in it, and lets people see for themselves how great they are.

 for that!

WaxyChicken 01-15-2008 11:58 PM

OMG THANK YOU!!!
i've been looking for this movie for a few months now. (i didn't wanna pay $20 online for it when i knew it would be $5 somewhere else.)

MetroMPG 01-16-2008 12:00 AM

Still worth the $5 though. Check with some of the rental places - someone on the EVDL said they picked up a couple of previously rented WKtEC DVDs for $5 or $7 ea.

WaxyChicken 01-16-2008 11:53 PM

Thank you.

Thank you.
I just finished watching it for the first time.
I'd been wanting to see it for a while, now.

moving.

Before I click on the link, can anyone tell me how large it is and if I can simply download the vid? My ISP puts me on probation if I exceed some download limit (they won't say what it is, but I've tripped it downloading 100+ mb software packages).

TIA, Stan

SVOboy 01-17-2008 03:18 PM

No idea on the size and I don't think you can download directly. I'd wager it's less than 100 megs though.

Weird about the limit, still.

Stan 01-17-2008 04:06 PM

Thanks for the DVD offers guys, but I checked with my ISP who reminded me that there is an unlimited download period from midnight to 3am ET, so I will download it tonight. :)

PS - The file is 240 mb.

bbjsw10 09-03-2008 11:12 PM

Figured this is worth a bump, and it can be found at most libraries. I just watched for first time tonight. Wanna know my next project...................................an EV. Somehow, someway, I am going to do it.

bennelson 09-03-2008 11:21 PM

On a related topic...

The book is better. That's right, there's not one, but MANY books on what happened in GM during this interesting bit of history of the EV.

Get yourself to a library and check out any book about it. You will be glad you did.

SmallFry 04-18-2009 12:12 AM

I downloaded it and watched it. I've never had a documentary move me that way. Granted, I don't get a lot of time to watch much of anything. It's kind of relevent today with the shape the automakers are in because of the choices they've made.

Since having alot of time to think, I've been having these little moments of clarity where I can see our world, or whatever part of it I'm thinking about at the time, for what it really is; Fake. Nothing is what it seems.

I was raised strict christian, and although political assosiations were discouraged, leaned republican. To shorted the story, the older I get, and the more I open myself up to differing views, the more I can see our who way of life is based on BS. I don't mean this post to be inflamitory or inciting a discussion of beliefs, just a statement that the docu was one more stepping stone to seeing how things really are.

I got angry and find it hard to care if GM or Ford survives (on an emotional level).

ps.
Sorry for the scatterbrained post. I find it hard to write my views and have it come off as intelligent, yet brief.

There will be a theatrical showing in Milwaukee of WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? tomorrow, April 19th, 2009 at the TIMES Cinema.

See details here.

lectruck 05-18-2009 04:37 AM

There are also two different version in multipul parts on Youtube that I watched last year. I'll try the full length movie for the first time without interruption.

ev59rag 05-19-2009 03:32 PM

for some reason the link does not work.

evmdfan 07-29-2009 11:12 AM

Who killed the electric car? is a great movie to show friends and introduce to electric cars. I'm so glad it exists, and is such a useful tool. On a similar note, anyone who liked the movie should check out the book "Two Cents Per Mile" by Nevres Cefo . It expands on the movie (the NiMH / Chevron scandal), as well as providing more general information about electric vehicles, and comparisons to combustion vehicles and other alternatives.
