Funeral to Go to/Car Won't Start:
 
Today, while I was running out errands, I went to start my car at the local strip mall, when my 94 Civic Vx starting making that indicative sound of having a bad starter when I tried turning over the engine. It was at this point when I'd realized that I was sitting in front of an auto part store....lucky I thought, plus I have AAA.

The car got towed back to my place, whereas I just installed the new starter, making sure that everything was connected right; but still, I'm getting that same all too familiar sound, like a starting grinding; but the engine won't turn over. What else might be causing my car to make that sound?

I need quick answers as I have a funeral to attend tomorrow morning, while also having to go to work on Monday....what else might it be?

Rapid ticking? Weak/dead battery

If you hear grinding, it could be a mis-aligned starter

No ticking, just grinding. I tried jumping the battery prior to installation. Afterwards, I lined everything up to the bolt holes.

Did you inspect the ring gear teeth on the flywheel while the starter was out...???

Unfortunately, I didn't. I've got to admit, this is the first time I've ever installed a new starter.

I just got on Youtube and saw a demo on inspecting the ring gear teeth on the flywheel. Before I dive into that, I think I might want to try simple/most common or likely problem before getting advanced.

If it was grinding with the original starter and still grinding with the new starter the starter isn't the problem. Try turning the engine over by hand or by bumping it over if it is a manual trans. This will allow the starter to engage in another spot on the ring gear if the teeth are worn where it stopped. Or, you can remove the starter and do a visual inspection of the ring gear with a flashlight.

In other words push start right? if so, I will try that immediately.

Well, I just got outside and did what you told me. I bump started the car and sure enough, it turned over and ran. So I guess this means I may need a new flywheel right.:(

They used to sell the ring gears separately, not sure on Hondas.
