Well thats not a surprise. Driver skill is dropping. Back in early 80's we had no nanny aids to help driver. I was taught to drive in 3 drifferent cars. Had lessons in snow and at night. Had to learn how to control car through candance braking and opposite lock on slipper surfaces. Night driving was taught correct use of head lights and how to spot hazzards in bad light. Spent hours driving in crowded narrow urban roads and wide open spaces with livestock on unfenced roads. These skills do not seem to be taught any more.

Of course not. Those interfere with the always-necessary texting.
|
Those skill were never taught here to the general public.

It was expected your father would teach you. Prior to the flood of divorces that ruined American families, it was simply one of the repertoire of skills imparted.
But never-married or divorced = baby daddy & momma. Breaks the historical chain as one doesn’t have father or mother, but stand-ins. Why would “the general public” be taught? Implies other than family. |
Being taught those skill by your parents would require them to have skill. My reference to the general public was to drivers ed taught in public school. This training didn't come close to what is needed. My son was given the opportunity to participate in a high performance driving class.

Make the DRIVER smarter/less-dumb instead of the hunk of steel they're driving.

I'll just wait for this stop sign to turn green. When I was in high school driver's ed, we had to drive into Dallas, OR to find parallel parking spaces. Our instructor demonstrated un-parking by pulling forward, bumping the car in front, backing into the car behind, saying "I think I've got enough room now" and pulling out. Sort of learning by negative example. OTOH I learned to hit low beams momentarily going over the top of a rise, to get a better view of the far side. |
