Geo Headlights
 

What year's have the more aerodynamic headlights... and what years to those fit (i.e. are they compatible with geo's produced in years other than the model-year from which they came)?

My 89 has the "bucket" style lamps and I'd like to look into and upgrade... for both aerodynamics and looks.

I can't tell you anything as far as the compatibility goes, but I know a lot of guys here do the lexan covers over the buckets to make them go with the rest of the car.

All you can do is use covers. My 1998 has the aero lights, but I hate them! I may end up switching to the older style (1995-2001 compatible) with the replacement sealed beams. It may affect some MPG's, but I rather be able to see when it's dark.

where does one get these lexan covers?

I think they were all home-made. Coyote X made a pair for his XFi.

To answer your other question, you need to stay within the same generation to get aero lights that fit ('89-94 for you). I believe the aero lamps from the convertible might swap in, but don't hold me to that. Not the Swift though - unless you're also willing to swap the hood and upper bumper cover.

Seems much easier to get some lexan and make your own, now doesn't it? :)

or a clear 2 liter pop bottle if you want cheap covers :) They break easy but are easy to make new ones.

if you can find a 89-94 lsi or vert it has the aero headlights but with DOT legal bulbs they are not as bright as the sealed beam lights. The adjusters are also badly made on them so they will probably break when taking them off the car to swap over to yours and trying to align them.

I think the clear covers over the sealed beam lights looks better...

I didn't do anything that fancy making the covers. Just cut a bottle out a few inches larger than it needs. Glue it on and use tape to hold it in place. After the glue dries I trimmed it up with a dremel. Then to make it look nice I panted the edges black to hide the glue.

If someone hits this thread looking for information on swapping the lights on the 95 and up Metros, I put the lights from an LSi into my old 97 metro without any issues at all, but ended up swapping back to the sealed beams and making covers from some Home Depot plexiglass. I made a cardboard template, flattened it out and cut the shape out of the plexi, then used a heat gun to form it into the curve. It held fine with the "high strength" velco. The end result looked better and worked better (lighting wise) than the LSi lights. I wouldn't bother doing the swap if you just want the aero aspect, and the plexi covers can be swapped out when they get fogged or pitted from road sand over time.
