Geo Metro Frame Rusting Out? Pics of the Fix here.

Don't think your Metro is toast just because the frame is rusting out above the lower control arms...You can fix it with a little sheet metal and a welder. I can weld but my dad's friend has been at it quite awhile longer, so I took him up on the offer to help. The job was completed in 3 1/2 hours, including clean up. I posted the pictures on a different forum, so if you'd like to take a look or ask any questions, you can do it here:

Another Metro saved from the scrap pile.

Wow, did that without even removing the axles, that is talent.

Yeah, the tie rods...he said not to bother disconnecting them, saying he could work around them just fine. I thought he did a great job, and wanted to share my pictures with everyone. I realize there are others that have posted their pics too, and have done good work...I just wanted to help encourage others to fix their Metro's, rather than scrap them. Thanks for the comments.

Metros were designed to fall apart. You need to look into a sacrificial anode to combat this

They were designed to be economical, and they have that in spades!

The good thing about Metros is that their weak spots are so well known. There is a lot out there, like this, on how to fix them. Personally I like having a simple car where all you really have to worry about is the control arms, dropping a cyl., or dashboard fade.

Mine is a 1998, so no dash issues ;)
Just the engine burning valves and the frame rotting away. That's not so bad I guess?

I am having the same issue with a 99 metro. I live in the Ann Arbor area and would like some contact information for the welder Hacksaw used for his repair.
