MetroMPG 01-11-2017 01:59 PM

That was interesting on several levels.

t vago 01-11-2017 03:28 PM

Nice MPGuino!

Geo caching... *facepalm*

Everything about this video is why I make fun of Geo Metros.

Reminds me of my Subaru glory days. I hope to always own a beater vehicle. Currently it's my ODOT truck, but I've already put a few light scratches on the Prius.

What did I just watch?

Sometimes it does surprise me that GM didn't release the Metro in my country instead of the Opel Corsa. It seems to stand up to abuse quite well for a subcompact.

I had a 987 Chevy Sprint, 1.0L 5 speed 2 door...awesome fuel economy, unstoppable in the snow...so much fun to drive as a teen.

That's the reason they stopped selling it...it got too good of MPG's and was too reliable. ;)

freebeard 01-13-2017 04:30 PM

Tree farm. They had a long way to go to get that One Very Special Log.

samwichse 01-14-2017 06:39 PM

So much sap on that car...

Also, what are they going to do, burn that log? Someone should tell them about a little thing called creosote.

Saskwatchian 01-15-2017 04:23 PM

Reminds me of the Peugeot 306 I had in Australia, that thing made it across the outback and up some pretty impressive offroad trails when they were dry. Small FWD cars can go though a surprising amount of stuff if driven carefully with a bit of skill. I kept it going but it was basically worth scrap when traded it for a ride to the airport when it was time to go back home.

RedDevil 01-15-2017 04:49 PM

That was a nice Geographic display of Geological Geotracking by a GeoMetric :)

I had a lot of fun off-roading small FWD cars while I was learning how to drive.

freebeard 01-16-2017 01:33 PM

For me it was RWD sideways on gravel. It ended when I tried it in a car with a fresh coat of paint. :(

They don't make fun of you

RWD was not mainstream anymore when I started driving.

One of my chores, once I got the car was to go to a local dairy (up the gravel road) and get milk in wide-mouth gallon jars with wax paper under the lid. It was churned for the butter.

The paint that got eaten off the front valance [of my '57 Beetle] was jet-black Imron enamel, which was new at the time. Same Beetle as in my avatar, after the front clip was replaced.

I'm not sure why they don't. I mean, a G2 Insight? Thousands of dollars of hybrid technology and yet it struggles to beat a Metro that's 12 years older than it when it comes to MPG.

Btw the purple one in the video has an alternator delete, roof-solar panel to charge some special batteries that run the car, busted grill block, MPGuino, water temperature display, RE92 LRR tires, and an engine kill switch. It smokes my G2 Insight any day.

Ecky 02-18-2017 03:40 PM

Size, weight (safety equipment), power?

Natalya 08-18-2022 04:06 PM

I'm bumping this thread because more people need to watch that video.

freebeard 08-18-2022 04:37 PM

There's pitch all over mine because it parks [in a carport] beneath a lonesome pine tree.

MetroMPG 08-18-2022 08:48 PM

But they didn't even disable the daytime running lights.

Amateurs!

Amateurs!

Perhaps that is a ploy to distract you from a possible superior effort. As in: we are so efficient we can waste power.

Edit: some roads DRLs are.mandated with a resulting hefty fine

MetroMPG 08-19-2022 11:13 AM

True! They're mandated in Canada on road vehicles.

But they're not on a road. :P

To be honest, I'm not sure what the fine would be for inoperable DRLs where I live (same province where the videographer lives!).

Let's go with the "so efficient we can waste power" explanation. More fun.

redpoint5 08-19-2022 12:15 PM

Hey, Natalya's still around.

Watched it again. Odd seeing RWD on a small car.
