Girlfriend wants SUV ( it " looks nice " )

Why is it that just when you think you have so much in common with someone, you get a comment like "I just like the way it looks " when talking to your girlfriend about SUVs and their inefficiencies ?

My girlfriend wants a FJ Cruiser in bright yellow

I asked here what she likes about the looks of it. " I just think it is attractive."

So do you guys think that she finds it attractive - because it looks masculine ?
Typically women go for 'cute' cars that look cartoonish such as the Smart, the Beetle, and the Echo. These cars have small wheels and large areas of glass which make them look cartoonish.

Do you think an economy car that looked masculine could have the same effect on her ?

I will have to find a picture of an 'economy' car that looks muscular, and get her feedback on it. Any suggestions ?

Although she admits that the FJ cruiser is completely inefficient and unneeded, she still wants one based on looks alone. I think the bright yellow color might have the 'school bus safety placebo effect" as well.

My first thought is that it is simply Toyotas take on the Hummer - just look at the windshield angle. It is more of an FJ BRUISER to the Environment than anything.

rant over :)

I think the big question here is: If she gets it...will you mod it for her? :D

Does your girlfriend want you to pay for it?

Wait and show her a Fiat 500. In her favorite color. Put a bow on it. Total Epic Win.

We will not hear from you for a while.:p

There aren't many economy cars with loads of character, but I think the Mini Cooper and VW New Beetle fit the bill.

Women make emotional choices, sometimes even on the big things in life. Sometimes... *sigh*... you just have to let them make poor decisions.

Oh, and think of the new FJ that will be in your driveway as the Jeep Wrangler's responsible, civilized brother.

What about the Ford Escape Hybrid.

The Fiat 500, Mini or TDI Beetle would be better choices though.

Get her emotional about that Fiat. Then take her out on a date in it. Under the moonlight....picnic....tiramisu (sic)......................flowers......

She'll forget all about that safety yellow ecokiller!

I don't think so. Women are in charge of the majority of vehicle purchases in the U.S.. They love SUVs and pickups, and some of them even "need" duallys.

They like to sit up high, because most of them are munchkins that never get that "high POV" on foot.

They like to have 4000 lbs of steel around them, because they are not in control of the vehicle; it is a sentient being that is in charge when it's out on the road.

Beware, she may want to try to keep up with the herd in other ways too.

The 4 wheel drive mini cooper has alot of the same styling in a vehicle that is much smaller but gets twice the mileage.
I've tried to convince a number of women that their vehicle choice was bad because of mileage, or cost of ownership and the "but I like how it drives" or "I like how it looks" tends to be part that wins them over, I often think that women are willing to pick a vehicle based only off color at times.

Re: color being a primary consideration: got that right! :/
