Got a Pontiac Metro :D
 

Hi all,
I just bought the car of my ecomodding dreams! A 1989 Pontiac firefly with Metro doors, fenders, hatch, and hood. The previous owner claims he did monthly oil changes and swapped out the struts for better ones from the doner Metro. The shocks are good but it needs some TLC. The brakes are warped and worn. It's rusty, the CV joint needs replacing but for now it drives good and I love it! I have so many things I want to do to it but I'll have to do them as time allows. I'm commuting to collage 118km from home so it will get lots of miles.

My hope is to bump some of the civics off the top 10 list. So far I'm on track. The first tank I got 20% over EPA and I haven't even changed the oil yet :thumbup:

Congrats on the new wheels.

What are your ideas for first mods? I imagine aero as I'm guessing most of that 118km is highway.

I have been reading forums on ecomodder for a long time but haven't posted until now largely because I didn't have a car that I could do dramatic eco mods to. I plan on doing some rust repair and bondo and painting it all red so it looks better and lasts for a while. I haven't really made up my mind if I want to make a front end similar to the aerocivic, or if I want to make someging more like "the donkey's" civic. Either way I'd like to do something quick and simple in the short term. And later make a one or two peice front end that's reverse hinged. Out of fiberglass or wood. It would be easy for me to make out of thin plywood with a 1x1 stick frame. But I don't know how well it would weather, or be resistant to the heat of the engine. I'm thinking something like this pic. Check out the blog of this guy's build its awesome.

Yeah, the ForkenSwift had Firefly, Metro & Swift panels & wheels. It was a hybrid too. :D

Congrats on the car! They just don't exist around here any longer - rusty memories.

Aside from a grill block, air dam, and tire spats, they say there is far more aerodynamic potential improvement to be had at the back, like a Kamm-back.

Do you have plans for smooth wheel covers? All of the cool kids have those! :D

I definitely have plans for smooth wheel covers. I'm keeping an eye out for some 13" aluminum rims. For now I have 12's ill probably just zip tie some corplast to them for now. When I get some 13's I'll fabricate something. Maybe just sheet aluminum with some toggle bolts or something like that.

So I couldn't find an example of what I had in mind for a one peice hood/bumper/fenders, so I got the scissors and got crafty :cool: This is what I had in mind if I were to make something out of plywood. I was thinking have it come higher up the windshield so that it would reduce the windshield to hood angle. I'll have to take some more pics of my car and Photoshop this on it :D

Thanks it came with the car, I'm fortunate to live in Alberta where we don't have to have front plates:thumbup:
