GPS Trackers

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with GPS trackers?

Obviously I'm looking at the kind that use GPS and you track yourself online, not the subscription service type.

I've gone ahead and ordered one of these:

I wanted something hard wired so hopefully it will be a fit and forget unit. There's a back up battery if power is cut and it will be mounted in a hidden and armored place.

GPS receivers use quite a lot of power so I imagine those pet/ child units need constant charging.

A decent power bank should supply power long enough after the power is cut off.

Expecting one of your vehicles to get stolen?

I have seen one of my friends made a GPS.

So then you need to pay every month to keep a SIM card activated for it? How much does that cost?

should get one for my all-trac. It has no immobilizer

What exactly do you want to do with the tracker? There are several different kinds: the dog trackers (which have a radio link between the collar and your handset), lots of cell phone apps and dedicated devices to record hiking & biking trips, and more.

Depending on your update interval it's about 50MB per month so a few pennies.

No not really, I keep my bikes chained to the wall because the insurance demands it but by the time you're in my shed you have all the time in the world to cut through them.

If they get stolen by a pro they just jam the GPS/GSM and if a meth head gets it I expect to find it total loss in a ditch anyway.
