DOHCschwab: Intro

Hello All

Not new to the automotive scene but like most common people, new to EV and Hybrid tech. I actually stumbled upon this site due to attempting to repair or troubleshoot my wifes 2008 Civic Hybrid (IMA).

I'm a big fan of MPG and constantly keep a running notepad log inside my own car (95' accord coupe, 5spd) so I was delighted to happen upon this site.

I look forward to reading more and hopefully getting some advice on our IMA issues (i'll make another post regarding this).

Thanks
Mike

Welcome!

What is your Accord averaging? You'll have to start a garage and fuel log on here.

What is wrong with the wife's car??

Accord averages 37.4 on my drive to work (mainly constant 65mph for 40 miles one way). Around town I get around 31ish. Town mpg is harder to calculate due to mix driving conditions. Not bad for a larger SOHC 2.2L and bone stock. Gonna look into some of the driving techniques on this site and what else I could possible do too boost (needs tires soon, wheel bearings might not be a bad idea and drop in suspension cause the wheel gap is almost 4 inches!). Slow and steady with this car though, my son is due to start driving soon and this will be his 'learner' car.

My wife's car is a different story and I will post a different topic soon, either tonight or during my work break.

Just FYI people, I work at an automotive plant that manufactures Hybrid systems and their control boards - I'm in the reliability sector and get to break stuff, totally awesome.

HCH are known to have balance issues with their IMA batteries. If you have no warning lights then a you can likely revive it with a maintenance charge. Depending on code if you got a light it could be something in the IMA system vs just a bad stick in the battery compartment.
