Should I replace my car? Is this too much rust?

1. Currently have a 2006 Toyota corolla I wanted to ecomod, but the rusted section that I was planning to restore may be too much to what I currently thought, rotting away part of the chassis connected that a bracket to the "trailing arm"? Im not too familiar here but others are telling me its unsafe and its a junk car now. The car otherwise runs great, engine is great and has 125k miles. What are your opinions of this?

2. If I have to replace the car, any suggested car models you'd recommend? Im looking at similar reliable / older compact cars. I may even repurchase the same car.

1. That would depend on whether you do it you own self or pay someone. And having the necessary tools and space. The metal would be cheap but paint not so much. How likely is it that that's the only rust?

2. If you have the space to store it, another 2006 Corolla would make sense. You'd be all set for tail light lenses, complete drivetrain and anything else yuo might need.

I could rivet sheet metal on the exterior to cover the hole, and silicone to make complete seal (I dont care if it looks "rough", as long as it functions) - my concern is structurally if the car is okay, as metal on the chassis is missing (not just the exterior sheet metal) for example if that bracket I circled in this image ( imgur.com/a/FGkgT0V ) is removed, will the car fall apart? Mind you - these pics are prior to removing more rust, the video shows after I removed a lot of the rust. I lack experience in this area. The opposite side of the car is intact and doesnt have a gaping hole like this.

From other forums people are saying the car is scrap. I dont have a welder, and im sure the cost to hire a shop to fix the structural part would exceed what I paid for the car ($2k) so I may just get a new car. I was browsing for a 1992 Honda Civic CX just like what aerocivic had but havent had much luck

That doesn't look good, but the actual suspension mount still looks fairly solid from what I was able to see. For now. But probably not for long. I've driven worse, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea.

The brake line doesn't look very good! I'd worry about that first.

I would replace that car due to rust. You now know what to look for when purchasing a replacement. Do they safety check where you live? I doubt that this car would pass any kind the safety check.

If you don't have the resources to fix it by yourself, get another car. But try to salvage as many good parts from this one before disposing of the bodyshell. Even if you ultimately don't use those parts for another project, you can sell them separately for more than you would get selling this entire car for scrap.
