Has a diesel car done as well as the Aerocivic
Anyone put together a diesel based vehicle that has matched or bettered the Aerocivic?
I'm a diesel guy at heart, do own a Honda; maybe I need to be steered in the right direction. |
VW has a 1L/100kM concept which would destroy the aerocivic. But no, there has been no home made aeroTDIs.
A properly geared diesel with the extreme aero modifications would easily get more MPG than the aerocivic. |

I'm planning this with a Festiva if I end up buying it. It will be 50% win, 50% awesome, and 50% hell yeah. A diesel 92 Festiva is allowed to have 150%. It's in the rules. Look it up. |

Yep, there it is......TDI Festiva deserves 150% :p |
Told you it was in there...
Except mine would only get 130%... It would only be a TD... Still an IDI motor. :( |

Actually, there is a diesel which comes very close: Groar's Megane. Here are the stats as of today:

I am currently in search of a partially wrecked TDI to turn into a reverse trike with a full tail etc. I hope for 80+ MPG

The Avion is an aeromodded diesel, although they designed the body from scratch rather than aeromodding an existing vehicle. It currently has the diesel from the diesel Smart Fourtwo in it and gets 80mpg at 70mph and 114mpg at 55mph. Its a smaller and lighter car than the Aerocivic with an aluminum chassis and seats 2 people. Their website is http://www.100mpgplus

I think the Avion might be a bit small, cool car though. I like the idea of doing what you and others did with existing equipment. Hey, what can I say, I'm addicted to diesel and completely incureable. |

The TDI swapped Saturn on here is in the 60s, IIRC, and he's not done with the aeromods. I don't think it's got a tail, either.

Well, my best is 67mpg, but it takes few tanks to get a true trend, also I have still some mods to be made and old ones need improving too.
With bit more mods, I think that I could beat that 70mpg, but I doubt that 100mpg will be possible at all, not with this motor, more modern HDi motor would drink lot less and with that 100mpg would be possible, but with our laws such swap would be really a PITA, also car is going to be scrapped in a year as bodyshell is rusted and gearbox is shot. With such great mods as there are in aerocivic, it should be possible to get lot better FE as my mods are not too great quality in aero terms, so there is room for improvement, I have not beaten even 70mpg and I have quite lot of visible mods. |

Overview: Volkswagen - Lupo 3L - Spritmonitor.de The entire first page of results, beat 70mpg average ! Best result of someone on that list, is a record tank of 2.32 L/100km - that's 101.4 mpg (US) over 500 miles. The best lifetime average is 90mpg ! http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/205984.html Similar results with the Audi A2 3L and an even better record tank : Overview: Audi - A2 3L - Spritmonitor.de Best tank : 2.26L/100km over 500 miles, or 104mpg (US).
