Hello from K-Series.com! :)

Hi all, I'm Steve the owner of K-Series.com (Honda/Acura based for those that don't know).

I'm working on an article about modding cars for MPG instead of HP due to the ever wonderful price of gas and the my personal direction to give less and less of my money to big oil.

That being said, I'm going to be working on my wife's Honda Element (which has terrible gas mileage already IMO).

It's used as a family car for local traffic only so it's seeing about 19/21 mpg at the moment.

I've been reading this site for the past few days and have already come up with some great ideas and such.

I'll be picking everyone's brain, so please try not to kill the noob too much (yes, I've been using the search option a lot as well. :) )

Welcome to the site. There is a lot of info to soak up here. If you have any questions feel free to ask. We're not big flamers here. :)

Thanks!

I'm pretty excited about it since it's something completely different from anything I've done and I love learning new things.

How much money are you willing to spend? Reducing alternator load with solar PV would be an effective mod, given (a) the roof expanse you've got to work with, and (b) the palm trees I see in the background. :D

I know, I know. Not even close to being financially reasonable.

Welcome to the site.

Here's what I'm looking at specifically (Looking at, more of an analysis.)

Tire Pressure
Ride Height
Air Filter
Intake/TB/Intake Manifold
Exhaust
Wheels (lighter)
Interior weight
Belly Pan
Vortex Gens

Now, I like the solar panel idea. But I'm starting with more DIY/cost effective mods at first and I'm staying away from drilling holes in the body if at all possible.

Welcome to the site! I think maybe some "Aeromods" would be the best way to get better MPG from a rolling brick like that.

k-series -

Welcome to EM! When you posted "K-series" I thought you meant the old Chrysler "K-Car" platform, :D .

I have the "MPG is a hobby" approach, so I am not as interested in the payback, but the "pay for itself" philosophy is a 100% legitimate way to approach it, especially if you are writing an article. Bang for the buck and all that.
